Right Ftv. J. B. P. Wilmcr. Bishop of the
Ihoceae of Lonisiina, a native of Virginia,
agad about sixty-live yarn, dicl suddenly
at the t<t. Charles Hotel, in New Orleans,
at aeven o'clock laet evening, of ?i>ep8eTj. Ho
arrived November * 'J? from a protbesioiial tonr
through Northern Louisiana, seemingly in good
health. He preached on Sunday at Christ
Church and administered the comntunii u.
After tea last evening he went to his
room with Her. Isaac Marks. when he
complained of indigestion. Mr. Marks procured some
soda, after taking which the bishop felt better, lit a
cigar and smoked a while, when he-was suddenly pros
trate i by apoplexy. A physician was sent for, lmt the
Bishop died in a few minutes. He leaves a wife
and three children, now residing in Charlottesville,
Va. The Right Iter. Mr. Wilnier was a native of
Alexandria. Va.. and bad. prior to bis appointment to
the Episcopal <>bair of Louisiana, spent moat of his
life in that State. He belonged to the well-known iaiuily
of that name from which came his cousin. Bishop
Richard H. Wilmcr. of Alalwtna. He was. at the
time of his appointment (November 7. istWi, a
young man. in vigorous health, jmsacssed of
a targe fortune, which he freely used for
the advancement of the christian church.
I>r. Wilm?-r was graduated at the University of
Virginia in his academical course, and at the
Protestant Episcopal beuiinury. near Alexandria, in
hia theological. He was a man of commanding
appearance, un eloquent preacher and accom
