Con fidence on the buying side, after the opening, seemed entirely lacking and covering by snorts waa hardly a prop. The cash situation In corn continued ex tremely slow and new demand, because of the agitation against the high cost of living, Is about nil. The only show of firmness was at the start on short cov ering. Prices for corn advanced U ocnt to 1 H cents ft. bushel at the beginning, but from then on slid off rapidly with hardly a check. Liquidation In September was again heavy. That delivery closed at i cents a bushel lower. The early rite was checked partly by profit taking by the scalping crowd. Commission house trad ing was mixed. Weather was again fa vorable. After the first hour the decline became more rapid, prices dropping to new lows for the season. Corn closed from to 8 cents below its lost pre vious final bids. . Qnts held comparatively steady during the first hour, but weakened with corn. Cash demand is slow and selling pres sure) appeared on an slight upturns. Although receipts were rather light, the visible supply was Urge. The oats market In the later business was rather unsettled, prices weakening stead ily under local and Western pressure. Exports seemed to show little interest In the market. At the finish oats were 1 to 1 cents a bushel lower. Provisions were under the Influence of the decline in cereals, but held comoar- .Utvely steady, although business was light The rise in hogs induced some buying, but moderate pressure was pres ent at most times.
