All Eeadisf ilatter on this pags ii from our last Evening Edition Gen. Burnside John McClellan. Announce the ArriTtl of Bnrnside t Fortress Monroe en route to join UoClelUn wtV W'Vtvar. m nma intended marching overland from New burn, but the arrival of dispatches from McClellan changed his plans, and Lis army ere put on board transports and proceed ed by tea. A disgraceful ecene was enacted at To ledo on Tuesday. A part of the stevedores on the dock refused to work while negroes were employed at the sane wages, and re- faiad to let the latter work at all. A row was startod by the white laborers and the . ,. negroes assaulted. Several shots were : fired nd many clubs, stones and brick bats used. The final result had not been . reached when the Blade of that day went to press. The reports from McClellan's army are that the sanitary condition of the men is good and that they are in good spirits and ready for the continuance of their work. Sound Words from Governor Johnson. Got. Andy Johnson, of Tennessee, made '. , powerful speech at Nashville on the 4th, from which we extract the following, and commend to our readers the contrast be tween his noble and manly utterances and the miserably shuffling apologies for the rebellion which were made at the Henio eratlc Convention at Columbur on the tame day: 'I hold that this OoTernmrfi' is of divine birth, that it is a gift of Cod himself, and that neither Parson E-'iiott, nor Parson Sehon, nor Parson Howell, nor Armaged don, have a right to break it up. I punish these men, not because they are priests, but because they are taitors, and enemies of society, law and o-'Jer. They have pur . ucd and corrupts boys and silly women, and inculcated rebellion, and now let them , Suffer the ptnalty. received the other day a rcrputt to allow tome ham, tweet pickle and other delieaeiet to be carried to thete per- . J 4A fkrat ntf ftflr uw in to me, and I vould find pertont a good deal more worthy to receive them than these - rebel. I would give them to the tuffering vidowt and trphant among ut, whose hut bands and others were deluded by these men into the rebel army, and now fill a rebels ' grave, or He in prison. (ShouU of MGoodl good! that's right!") If delicacies are to be distributed, I think that these innocent sufferers, the victims of these corrupt rebel prirsts, are a good deal more worthy ob- - jects of charity and compassion than the deceivers themselves. Why should they he feasted and lionised, and their wretched victims be left to perish? (A whistle in ths rear of the crowd.) I hear A whistle. I believe it is Goldsmith who says in his Natural History, that there are only two Animals that hiss : the viper, by reason of lta venom, and the goose, for its simplici ty. I think the present instance is an ex ception, and the whistler is A Gosling. It is some foolish creature instigated by oth ers who are too cowardly to show them selves. Let your masters show them- - (elves and I will attend to them. But why should these persons ask for sympathy? When did they ever express ' sympathy for the loyal men who lit in the jar of Tuscaloosa, covered with firth, -and Jed on tainted meat T Alas, to their agonixing cries no response is made but the clanking of their chains. These men who claim special regard, have stolen the livery of Heaven to serve the devil in, but I am de- termined that they shall feel the power of the government which they have sought to destroy. Some professed . to entertain a holy horror of coercion. Why, force and terror have coerced the South into her present position, and nothing but force and power will bring her back. You were co erced by the violence and force of seces sion, and the spirit of secession must be inbdued and controlled by force.' The strong arm of the Government must be bared, and justice must do her work.- We may as well understand the fact first as last, and go to work rationally. Without force and power to coerce we have no Government, - ! How have matters gone on heretofore ? Why, when the Union army came hore, the first to run to it for protection And privilege were secessionists, who got pro mises of protection if they would remain neutral. On the other hand, the poor Union men were terrified with threat of vengeance if the rebel army should return. . The secessionist was protected by the Un ion Army, and was equally confident of protection should the rebel army return ; o he felt perfectly easy. - The Union man . dreaded utter ri in, should a reverse occur, and was filled with perpetual alarm, i So, under this strange policy, the rebel had two guaranties, and the Union man' but one. It is time this was stopped. The time has arrived when treason must be made odious and faitors impoverished. Thesemen have used their property to destroy the - ' government, and fill the land with bank ruptcy and distress ; they have given their weBlth freely to aid rebellion and treason, - And drench the land in fraternal blood, and crush out the last vestige of liberty, and their property should be taken from them ' to defray the expenses of the war They are the guilty ones. They Are the real crimi nals. The poor have been deluded and dragged into this war, while the authors And instigators who have kept np the war by their money and contributions, have skulked at home, and demanded the pro tection or tne eaeral Uovernment. : It use all and the ops At he to ! CLEVELAND, THURSDAY ' MORNING, JULY 10, 1862. - What is Doing in Iron-Clad Vessels. Our Government is wisely strenirthnninir the navy iu the class of vessels which have recently proven to be the most efficient for war purposes. All our available iron es tablishments are employed tin : hnilil. ing iron clad steamers of various kinds. ome after the fashion of the Monitor, all of which will be completed bv autumn mug umuo most powenui iron-cind navv et ooustructed. Captain Ericsson has a contract for six lnree Monitors, all nr. th general plan of the first Monitor, bnteaoh with peculiarities of it own. Some of these will be three hundred feet Ion or nearly twice the length of the first Moni tor. The turreis will be throe innh.. thicker than the first shiD unrin this nntrorn The whole six vessels are intended for sea! service, as well as haiW defence. These gunboats are being built at Green- ick, by Mr. Rowland. Ther are fi!2 foi long, with armor Bix inches thick. The Whitney gunboat, being built at the Dry Dock Iron Works, is different from any other. It is shaped like a duck, is ljtf feet long, and is entirely built of iron, hav ing no woodwork in her frames or sides. ine xrarue is ribs or rings of iron, grow ls smaller toward the end ; the ribe three quarters of an inch in thickness. The iron piaies, to the thickness of seven inches, are laid upon theerih ' .r rtr targe turrets, and will be pro pelled with four propeller engines. , At the bow there is A formidable iron ram, nine feet long. , The other iron-clod vessels being con structed Are one by Mr. Col well, at Jersey City, which is an iron-clad Monitor. Dnn is being built at Boston, precisely of the same pattern, i nree hulls and six turrets "j iwnmnu, at ureenpoint. iiiree tw T L. 1 1 . 1 1 . . ,. set or engines and boilers for these three hulls are being built at the Delamater rtorxs, iew lork city. Two hulls com plete, with engines, boilers and turret, at the Atlantic Works, East Boston, and lor ing k Co., South Boston. Two hulls complete, with engines and boilers, but without turret at Chester, Pa. Eeamy & Sons. One hull complete with engines and boilors, but without turret at Wilmington, Del. The U. S. steam frigate Roanoke is being covered with armor and supplied with turrets at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The Ironsidcs.at this place, is nearly completed. Tfce new Monitors will cost $400,000 each, which is cheaper than the wooden vessels of th same site. The Roanoke cost $500,000 and S50.000 annu- Ally to keep her in repair. i,acu ol the Monitor class of vessels will ing four hundred and twenty-five pouuds. wmcn is nearly tnreo times the wcizht of the round shot fired from the largest Arm strong guns yet made for the British navy. is stated that some of them will throw a shell of a thousand pounds weight. In ad dition to these new vessels, a number of iron-clad gunboats for lake and river ser vice are under way. The Maine Railway and Dock Company, Cincinnati, are con structing two new gunboats of oval deck and iron-clad. It is intended to render them invulnerable, all sorts of military projectiles glancing from the sides without producinr any impression. A number of others are in process of construction for on the Mississippi. When these are finished we need not haTe any further apprehension's about the British and French iron-clad navies. The British have four iron-clad vessels built, and are construct ing twelve others, all construed under large deckers are to be cut down and con structed with revolving turrets. lhe French have six iron-clad frigates afloat eleven building. Philadelphia Ledger. Tea ... sales nois the that Nostalgia. Dr. Hunt writes to the Buffalo Express following as his experience with Nos talgia" or home-sickness in'the army : You have learned, perhaps, of that form of camp home-sickness which devel itself into insanity, and is written down in the books as nostalgia. It is a sin gular and painfully interesting mental phenomenon. One of them only has been fully developed under my eye. The man came here almost entirely recovered from fever, and claiming himself to bo entirely well, refusing medicines and talking very rationally about everything but home. Day after day, as the boat came up to the dock, he would pack his knapsack quietly, ssy good-bye to his ward-mates, and march down to the wharf only to be disappointed and find out, as he more forcibly than ele gantly expressed it, that " it was not the right boat it was another d d boat." nights, in his sleep, he talked contin uously of wife and child; daytimes he said little, but finally made a confidant of me, and said that 'all night and all day dreamed and thought of home, and sometimes, perhaps, it made him light beaded.' He had been a year in the ser vice, and always gay and happy to the period of his recent illness. Ilia family lived in New York, and one morning I had the happiness to see Charley march down the boat with his neatly slung knapsack; and it was the 'right boat' that time. He has been home a fortnight now, and I have doubt will return to his regiment a good soldier. To have kept him here would have enedd, probably, in suicide. the that in mies ing and fere, er and by ing re-establish The Federal Loss in the Six Days' Fighting. [Correspondence N. Y. Times.] OUR LOSS IN KILLED, WOUNDED AND PRISONERS. OXERS In all the engagements, Mechanicsville and Gaines' Mill included, can hardly fall far short, or much exceed twenty-five thousand men. Our loss in prisoners is heavy, tue enemy's cavalry making easy captives of thousands of stragglers who lined the roads in our rear, and besides these we have left thousands of woundsd in their bands. Their loss must be at least as heavy, and probably heavier in killed and wounded than our own, but in prisoners it fell far short, though we have taken about two thousand from them. Included in our loss were many of our finest officers, the number of line, company and staff olheers killed and disabled, being unusually large. Our loss of guns is stated at forty, and we have taken from the enemy perhaps two thirds that number. To compute the value of the property stores, cars, ammunition, sc. destroyed by us in our change or po sition, is impossible, with the scanty data I have at hand, but it must amount to two or three millions of dollars. to Disloyal Sheets. John W. Kees, editor of the Circleville, Ohio, Watchman, an obscure but disloyal sheet, has been arrested and his paper sup pressed. This is quite right, but the poll. cy should be extended to other organs of disloyalty in Uhio and elsewhere, the Crisis, published at Columbus, by Sain Me- dary, has a considerable sale among read. era ef the rebel persuasion. It threatens resistance to the tax law, and rails at the Government as vehemently as the papers of Richmond. The Cincinnati Enquirer and Chicago Times circulate largely Among the rebels, who find comfort And encourage ment in the columns of these delectable heets.
