We hear rumors that a match will be arrauoed in a Ii r M. tweenthia club anl a. ri organic' i in neighboring town. . in CRICKET MATOH. Excelsior Club of Meadville versus Excelsior Club of Meadville versus Forest City Club of Cleveland---Be Excelsiors Beaten. The Cricket Match between the Excelsior Club of Meadville and the Forest City Club of thii eity eame offyeeterday, as annottne ed, on the grounds of the latter clttb, oppo site the Female Seminary, on Kinsman street, The clear and cloudless sky, the bracing bnt genial Beptember air, and the recent reins which gave freshness and elasticity to the turf, combined to render the occasion pleasant both to players and lookers-on, and tbe number of spectators a-aried, at different periods of the gsme. from one to four hundred. The ground was an excellent one And la capital condition. Play was called at about eleven o'clock, Cleveland taking the bat. Messrs. Fred Gillett and Geo. Rouse were the Umpires. The Cleveland players did some fine bat ting, though several of them fell easy vic tims to the excellent bowling of Messrs. Staemick and Fordyce, of the Meadvill Club. They succeeded, however, in ob Wining the creditable score of 89 on their first winning, which Was played in an hou and three quarters. The Excelsiors then took tbe bat, and after a two hours' inning retired with a score of 64. The fielding of the Forest City Club was, we think, supe rior to that of tbe Excelsior, though both in bowling and batting the two clubs wei very evenly matched. At the end of the two first innings a slight recess was taken, and the "layers discussed with much gusto an excellent luncheon served up by Mr. B. W. Garrett. Play being resumed, the two last innings want off with much more snap than the first, bath being played in about two hours. blatter, at first looked somewhat blue for Cleveland, who fiist took the bat, tha wicket of four or five of their best players (ailing almost as rapidly as they took the club before the straight bowling of Messrs. Brown and Staemick. Bending in some sure knockers and good runners, however, they soon arrested this course of things and ran their score np to 79 on tbe second innings, a total of 168, leaving Meadville 104 to tie. It was soon evident, however, that this would be impossible and the clos ing innings was rapidly played, Meadville going out with 39, a total of 103, leavirg the victory with Cleveland by the decisive majority of 65 tallies. The game was played with commendable spirit, fairness and harmony, and the office of umpire was more nearly a sinecure than it often the case. The bowling of Messrs. Moore of the Forest City and Brown of the Excelsior are especially to be commended. Messrs. Day, Denny and Kittiemaater, of the. Forest City, and Cowell and Crosby, ol the Excelsior, won laurels with the bat. The score is as follows : CLEVELAND rtasT iffanron. Kittiemaater o.
