W., was struck by lightning on ihe 31st inst. As the circum stances ate rather singular, we copy the particulars from the London Free Prent ss follows: "Mr. Ayers and hi family were taking dinner when the chimney was struck by the lightning snd demolished. The fluid, in its further descent, came in contact with an iron plate, which seems to have divided ilinto two parte; one of which look its course along the roof, to the eave-trougli, and Ihen ran down the staler spout to the ground, and in iis course melted and de stroyed litem both. The other portion followed down the inside of the chimney, and ran into the kitchen, snd killed a dog that was sleeping by the stove. Here, again, the Subtle fluid separated, nne portion ran under the kitchen table, between Mrs. Ayers and her children, scorching them and rendering litem senseless; it then pur sued its way and demolished a glass thai hung against the wall, and finally made its exit. The remaining portion followed along the crack between the floor boards, and thus came in contact with the shoe of Mrs. Ayres; il entered al the heel and went out st the toe, ripping the shoe completely and blistering the font somewhat badly. Miss Ayres, upon receiving the shock, im mediately fell senseless. Another daughter. Mrs. IN tilts, we be lieve, was sitting a little distance, wilh her child, but in I lie same line with her sister; in her case the fluid entered lit toe of her shoe, ripped it, ihen look it course along Iter slocking, in lis course blistering her leg, and then leaving her person, made its way through lite back part ol her dress and lodged itself in the wall, in which il made a hole of some inches deep, and re sembling that made by an augur. While these events transpired in tha kitchen, the lightning effected also, two young men, who were silting in ihe hall, and who were deprived of their sense by iis influ ence, and went Humbling head furemost into ihe kilchen. All this look place at once, and Mr. Ayres saw that which we have imperfectly described, pass before his eye at the same moment. Ha informs me that the scene was s most distressing one that the chim neys were demolished, the ceiling thrown down, the windows broken, the stovepipes twisted and broken, ihe floor ploughed, ea il wore, by lite electric fluid, and the. vari ous members of his family lying around in different stutes of insensibility nr con sternation, forming together a picture of a Irtily sffecting description! We are happy lo be able to add thai the Individuals with whom ihe subtle element came in contact have not sustained any injuries which are likely lo be ol a permanent kind, and donhtltsi feel lliankful thai, though the 'smell nf lire' was on litem, yat they were saved by a prolcding though au unseen hand.
