Two Hours with Brigham Young. SALT LAKE CITY, July 13, 1859. My friend Dr. Hcrnhisel, M. C, took me this afternoon, by appointment, to meet Brigham Young, President of tho Mormou Church, who had expressed a willingness to receive me at 2 p. m. We were very cordially welcomed at the door by the Pre sident, who ledis into the second story parlor of the largest of his houses (he has three), where I was introdaced to Ileber C. Kimball, Gen. Wells, Gen. Ferguson, Albert Carrington, Elias Smith, and sev eral other leading men in the Church, with two full grown sons of the Presideut. Af ter some unimportant conversation on gen eral topics, I stated that I bad come in quest of fuller knowledge respecting the doctrines and polity of the Mormou Church, and would like to ask some questions bear ing directly on these, if there were no ob jection. President Young avowed his wil lingness to respond to all pertinent innrtir- tea, and the conversation proceeded sub stantially as follows ; II. G. Am I to regard Mormonism (so can en ) as a new religion, or as stmpiy a new development of Christianity f i. i. e nominal mere can tie no true Christian Church without a priesthood directly commissioned by and in immediate communication with the Son of God and Savior of mankind. Such a church is that of the Latter Day Saints, called by their enemies Mormons; we know no other that even pretends to have preseut and direct revelations of God's will. II. G. Then I am to understand that you regard all other churches professing to be Christian as the Church of Rome re gards all chnrches not in communion with itself 83 schismatic, heretical, and out of the way of salvation. B. Y. Yes, substantially. K. G. Apart from this, in what respect do your doctrines differ essentially from those of onr Orthodox Protectant Church es the Baptist or Methodist, for example? B. Y. We hold the doctrines of Chris tianity, as revealed in the Old and New Testaments also ia the Book of Mormon, which teaches the same cardinal troths, a those only. II. G. Do you believe iu the doctrine of the Trinity J B. Y. We do; but not exactly as it is held by other churches. We believe in the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, as equal, but not identical not as one person being. We believe in all the Bible teach es on this subject. II. G. Do yon believe in a personal devil a liiiiiici, i.-on.-cious," spiriioul being, whose nature and acts are essentially malig nant and evil J - B. Y We do II. G Do you hold the doctrine of Eier nul l'uni liment ? B. Y. We do ; though perhaps not ex actly an other churches do. We believe it as the Bible teaches it. II. G. I understand that yon regard Baptism by Imiuersiou as eseutial. B. Y We do. II. G. Do y ou practice Iufant Baptism? B. Y. No. II. G. Do yon mnke removal to these valley obligatory oil your converts T . B. Y. They would consider thcmUe greatly grieved if they wre not invited hither. We hold to such a gather ng to gether of God's People as the li ilu fore tells, and that this ia the place, and now U the time appointed for its consummation, i II. G. The predictions to which you re fer gave usually, I think, been understood to indicate Jerusalem (for Jadea) as the place of such gathering. B. Y. Yes, for the Jews not for others. II. G. What is the position of your Church with respect to Slavery? B. Y. We consider it of Divine insti tution, and not to be abolished until the curse pronounced on Ham shall have been removed from his descendants. II. G Are any slaves now held in this territory T B. Y. There are. 11. G Do your Territorial laws uphold blavery r B. Y.-Those laws are priuted you can read for yourself. If slaves are brought here by those who owned them in tbt States, we do not favor their escspe from the Bevice of lho.e owners. II. 0. For this purpose, Ir. For tha cure of Dyspepsia, Indigestion, Nau sea, Flatulency, Loss of Appetite, or any Bilious Complaints, arixing from a morbid inaction of tho Stomach or Dowels, producing Cramps, Pyscnlery, Colio, Cholera Morbus, &fl., thcua 13ittcrs havo no equal. Dlarrhrca, dysentery or flux, so generally con tracted by now settlers, and caused principally by tho chango of water and diet, will bo speedily rcgulatod by a briof use of this preparation. ' lyspopsia, a disease which is probably more prevalent, in all its various forms, than any' other, and tho cause of which may always bo attributed to derangements of the digestive organs, can bo cured without fail by uinff IIOSTETTER S STOMACH BITTERS, as'pcr directions on tho bottle. For thia disease every physician will recommend Bitters of some kind 5 then why not uso an article known to be infal lible? All nations have their Bitters, aa a pre ventive of disease and strengthens of the ays tom in general ; and among them all there ia not to be found a more healthy people than tho Germans, from whom this preparation ema nated, basod upon scientifio cxpevjrncnts which have tended tj provo the value of this great preparation in tho scale of medical science. - Fkver and Aoce. This trying and provok ing disease, which fixes its relentless grasp on the body of man, reducing him to a mere sha llow in a short time, and rendering him phy sically and mentally useless, can be driven from the body by tho uso of IIOSTETTER'8 RENOWNED BITTERS. Further, none of the above-stated diseases can be contracted, even in exposed situations, if tho Bitters are nscd as per directions. And as they neither create nausea nor offend the palate, and render un necessary any change oi diet or interruption of ordinary pursuits, but promote sound sleep and healthy digostion, the complaint is re moved as speedily as is consistent with the pro duction of a thorough and permanent cure. For rertont in Advanced l'eart, who are suffering from an enfeebled constitution and infirm body, these Bittors are invaluable aa a restorative of strength and vigor, and need only bo tried to be appreciated. And to a mother whilo nursing these Bitters are indis pensable especially where the mother'! nour ishment is inadequate to the demands ef the child, consequently her strength must yield, and hero it is where a good tonic, such as Hostetter's Stomach Bitters, is needed to impart temporary strength and vigor to the system. Ladies should by all means try this remedy for all cases of debility, and, before so doing, should ask their physician, who, if he is acquainted with the virtue of tho Bitters, will recommend their use in all cases of weakness. CAUTION. We caution the public against using any of the many imitations or counterfeits, but ask for rioSTETTSR'S CELEBRATED STOMACH ElTTBRS, and see that each bottle has tho words "Dr. J.
