Closely connected with this, is the absence of Jl foreign taste in butter. Many housewives, not justly chargeable whh want of neatness, sutler it to go from uuder lhair hands, sadly in termixtu with substances quite foreign to the pure article. Salt is one ol these, and though necessary in certain proportions, there can be too much of a good thing. We believe that one grand dtftct, htre, is that cieam is kept too long, especially in the summer season, before itigchumeU. Few are aware, perhaps, how soon putrifaction lakes place in milk, in tbe hottest weather in summer. Undoubtedly the most satisfactory results are obtained, where the churning is performed every day. lots is not practicable in many of oar small daries; but, where a tolerable article ii expected, it should be done as often as two or three times a week. Butter seems possess, in a remarkable degree, the power ot appropriating to itself the flavor of substances with which it is in near contract. One of the committee, anxious to protect his butler from the fine dust, which is apt to set tle upon it while on exhibiton, procured a box, which waa to be covered with glass, ihe box, for want of oilier material, waa made of some sort of pine wood, la order to test tbe miter, and asceitain wheatherihe butter would take any taste from the wood, a small lump was put upon a plate and placed in the box. In twelve hours, it had imblied so mush of the fla vor of the wood, as to become strong and acid, even to the tase. In tha examination made by tiie committee to-day, the importance of this matter was amply illusiruied; much loo large a proportion of luc tots exhibited, having a taint of some lereign substance. While on this point, it may be well to say, that the quality of cream is srmetimrs materially damaged by be ing kept in a close vessel. This is probably in consequence of the confinement of certain gas es, which operate injuriously, and which would escapu if there were opportunity. Another of o r requisites is color and densu sily. The color, common consent declared should bo yellow. It is granted, that this is not a matter wholly within the dairy woman's power; but then, u sue nas a nusounu ana knows how to manage bim, she may notfiod it no very difficult to induce him to make a trial of his cows and keep only such as shall, by the aid of her facile bauds, crown his board with a production as pleasing to the eye, as it is tempt ing to the sppetitf. One cf tbe hottest days of last summer while working corn, by feeding largely and wa tering at the well while warm, I foundered a val uable maro. I turned her out at night, and when she was brought up next morning, it was with tho greatest difficulty that she cpuld walk. She seemed to be in great misery at every step I wa-, greatly alarmed for her safety, as I nev er foundered one before. I took her to the well and gave h r legs and shoulders a thorough washing with cold water. I then had her bled in the mouth, by sticking a sharp knife in the th'rd rib of the roof. She bled freely .swallow ing most of tbe blood for about one hour. I turned her out ngain, and the next day she was as well as ever, with no signs of the foun der. About two months later, 1 had the luck to have another one foundered, by entrusting him to the care of a boy at noon. I was trav eljng, and before night the horse gave out. I could not imagine what war the matter with him' I put up at a private house, and offered tha horse food, but he would eat nothing. We went out to see him at 9 o'clock in the evening, and found bim so stiff that he could scarcely stir. I then know what ajled him, and treated him tho tamo as I did the other ; giv ing him salt to make bim swallow the blood. He bled well, and we turned him out. The next morning he was ready for tbe road again though ot course, not as spirited as usual if the horse Is likely to bleed too much, give him tome flour or wheat bran to lick. I am quite . .tUi l tt i certain that ihe worst cases of founder may be cured in One day, it taken in season, with very little labor, no evil results, and no time lost, while the noble animal will be saved much unnecessary misery. FOR ALL THE PURPOSES 01 A FAMILY PHYSIC, Theri has long existed a public demand for an effective purgative pill which could be relied on aa sure and perfectly safe in its operation. This has been prepared to meet that demand, and an exten sive trial of its virtues has conclusively shown with what success it accomplishes the purpose designed. It ia easy to make a physical pill, but not eusy to taake the best of all pilu one which should have none of the objections, but all the advantages, of very other. This has been attempted here, and with what success we would respectfully submit to the public derision. It has been unfortunate hr the patient hitherto that almost every purgative medicine is acrimonious and irritating to the bow els. This is not. Many of them produce so much griping pain and revulsion in the sWtem aa to more than counterbalance tho good to be derived from them. These pillt produce no irritation or pain, unless it arise from a previously existing obstruc tion or derangemant in the bowels. Being purely vegetable, no harm can arise from Ueir use In any quantity ; but it ia better that any medicine should be taken judiciously. Minute directions for their use ia ths several diseases to which they are ap plicable aro given on the box. Among the com plaints whioh have been speedily cured by them, we may mention Liver Complaint, in its various forms of Jaundice, Indigestion, Languol and Loss of Ap- Sitite, Llstleesness, Irritability, Bilious Headache, ilioua Fever, Fever and Ague, Pain in the Side and Loins ; for, in truth, all these are but the con sequence of diseased action in the liver. As an aperient, they afford prompt and sure relief In Cos tiveness, Piles, Colic, Dysentery, Humors, Scrof ula and Scurvy, Colds with soreness of the body, Ulcer and impurity of the blood ; in short, any and every case where a purgative is required. They nave also produced some singularly suc cessful cures in Rheumatism, Gout, Dropsy, Gravel, Erysipelas, Palpitation of the Heart, Pains in the Back, Stomach, and Side. They should be freely taken in the spring of the year, to purify the blood and prepare the system for the change of seasuns. An occasional dose stimulates the stomach and bowel into healthy action, and restores the appe tite and vigor. They purify the blood, and, by tneir stimulant action on the circulatory system, reno vate the strength of the body, and restore the wasted or diseased energies of tne whole organism. Hence an occasional dose is advantageous, even though no serious derangement exists; but an Btceessry dosing should never be carried too far, aa every purgative medicine reduce the strength, when taken to excess. The thousand cases in which a physio is required cannot be enumerated here, but they suggest themselves to th reason of every body ; and it Is confidently believed this pill will answer a batter purpose than any thins which has hitherto been available to mankind. VVhen their virtues are once known, the public will no longer doubt what remedy to employ when in need of a cathartic medicine. Being sugar-wrapped they are Eleaaaat to take, and being purely vegotable, no arm can arise from their use in any quantity. For minute directions see wrapper on the Box. PREPARED BY JAMES C.
