The Court of Common Pleas ia in sea sion this week. We understand tbnt there ia no important business on bands this term. The Jefferson county Fair comes off on yesterday and to-day. Firneorh. We are requested tossy to our readers that there will le a grand dis play of ti reworks on next Tuesday even ing, at the Fair grounds. Hf In another column will bo found a list of uncnrrent bauk notes. Look well to your wallets, ye who have much of the "root of evil." Wo havo none and con- aeqtNptfj foel quite easy. Wo came across a recipe, a few days ago, fur curing a scolding wife. Read it, 4 poor dejected, cra-tfallon husbands, and lift up your banging heads: To Cuiik a Scoldinu Wifk. Laugh at bur with all your might until she gets through tcolding, and then give her a KISS. There, now, don't go round looking as if you had lost your bent liorse by distem per; go home nnd try tho en re, and if your wil'o dou't "cave" she's iucurable, that's all. The change in monetary affairs is pro during a melancholy result among tho la boring classes. Especially iu the largo cities, thousands of poor moo are being turned out of omploymont, to starve or be taken caro of by the wealthy portion of community. Tho approaching winter wi find an unusual number of families desti tute oi tuel an;l rood. reverty in its meanest garb will tread upon many hearth etonea and want will exist where it was least expected, lustead of clearing away, the clouds are gathering thicker and dark er, and "What will be done?" is upon the lips of the multitudes everywhere. Those who have plenty and to spare should feel thankful, and all should do their duty ia striving to ameliorate the sufferings of the poor and destitute. We return our thanks to the proprietor -of tho Citizen Democrat for the extreme puins he has taken, lately, to accotnmo dnte us over the toft. We think that when an office is eternally borrowing, tbey should be willing to accommodate their neighbors when tbey get into a "pinch," if in their power. And, further, so far as the threat that tbey "are going to knock the Free Press office into hell.1" is concerned, (oh, but wears "skeert!") wo are happy to in form hira that the Free Press can take care of itself, and so far as job work is concerned, we banter him to exhibit work that the Democrat has done and we wil exhibit work that we have done, (we have not time to get up anything new,) at the Fair, next week. Do you take, eh? We flave received the October number of the Electic Medical Journal, published at Cincinnati by R. 8. Newton, M. D. It is a valuable monthly and should be well patronized by the medical fraternity and those desiring any knowledge of phys ie. Terms, two dollars, in advance. Ab we were busily engaged at work -the other night we were interrupted by a call from without, and when tho door bad been opened in stepped Mr. Win. Cole .in an with a terene of oyster soap from bis oyster saloon, which ho placod upon our table end then stepped back to give all hands a chance. We laid down our work and 'piled in,' and you'd better be lieve those oysters disappeared tho way that all good oysters ought to go. Mr. C. is a clever boy and has our thanks. His ov-tcii we Ff i. I THE pA IK. ADJOURNED. We atnaateJ to be able to tell our read ers this week that our Fair was ever ; but instead of this we can only "report pro grass," aa tho inclemency of the weather woakl not permit the transaction of tba gdawal routine of business, and tbey were roropeiled to adj mm until a "more eov venient season ." We are glad to say, however, that, bad the weather been favor able, our fair would have been one of the d if not the best that baa ever bean bald in the county. The find day, ( Wednesday) was a very disagreeable one; the sky was overcast with clouds; the order of the day was, rainl rain! rain! and mud was not bv any means a scarce commodity. We wa ded up to the fair grounds to seo how things looked, and were agreeably disap pointed to find so much stock on hands for exhibition; it is truo that there was not so much as there would hive been if the weather had been good, neither could we expect it; but it made us feel glad to aee our enterprising farmers biinging in their stock and wading through the mud while tho rain continued to fall and the heavens continued to wear a threatening aspect Our farmers truly deserve credit for the energy and perseverence that they mani fested upon this occasion. The stock on exhibition was very fine, especially the cattle and sheep which ware excellent At sunset the western sky was red and hopes were entertained that the morrow would be a day of sunshine. But Thurs day morning came with clouds and mist. The weather, howo rer , was not so unfa vorable as it had been the day previous, and part of the stack was examined. The attendance (tho weather considered) was good. Iu tho evening old Sol made bis appearance and hope again sprang up in the breasts of all, that Friday to be the "grand gala day" would bo pleasant. But Friday morning was a looker and the Fair could not go on. So the man agers concluded to postpone further exhi bition until TUESDAY, THE 27TH INST., to continue two days. We hope to see a good crowd and a good time then Lot our farmers and others put forth every exertion to mako our coucty fair a good one. We can boast of good etock, big pumpkins and pretty women bring them ! to the fair ou next Tuesday and let us have a good time. Autumn, delightful autumn, is here once more. Tho air is "fresh and bracing" m'ujh'ij bracing, these morniugs. Jack Frost makes bold to peep out quite early, but old Sol when be gets up drives hira back to his nest again. Tbe foliage is tinged with n variety of hues, and nature k beautiful in her decay. Tho harvest has boon gathered, tho orcliards aie being robbed of their goldeii fruit, (although wo don't know of any particular depredation having been committed,) and the farmer is busy preparing for approaching winter Now ia the "good time" that has been "coming" and that wo havo been anticipa ting for mouths. We are blessed with plenty and we Ciin now bo merry. Now is the timo for apple-cuttings, buttei-boil ings and all kinds of "frolics;" and, by the way, won't some ono "ax" us, slili, to a butter boiling? we'll promise that we will not tell our wife, and you know wo Can "go out on business." JtJTW'e invite tbe attention of our farm era to the advertisement of tho "Little Gi ant" Corn and Cob Mill. The agent, Mr F. Weeton, will exhibit ono of tbe mills at the fair, next week, when all will hare an opportunity of seeing it in operation. Graham, for November, has been re ceived.
