- The Free Presbyterian was begun at Mercer, Penn. in 1850. Wm. F. Clark was publisher, but the editorial work was done by Rev. Joseph Gordon. In 1852, the Free Presbyterian was absorbed by the Christian press (Cincinnati, Ohio : 1852). The Aug. 10, 1853 issue of the Free Presbyterian announces that the title has been re-established after nearly a year's lapse.
