Shaw High a cappella Choir Sings For PT A Christmas
w.f# -.‘Wtf'W'W *'*&•*»
by members of the Dramatic De
partment. S. Robert Fraser heads
the entire production and will con
duct the choir. The orchestra is
under the direction of Milton Nier
garth, and members of the drama
class will be supervised by Miss
Lois Dean.
Given each year for the Parent
Teacher Association. Mr. Wayne
C. Blough, Shaw Principal, today
said that following the usual cus
tom, invitations had been sent to
all parents and that the public, too,
is cordially invited to attend. In
1948 the Christmas music was en
joyed by a capacity audience..
The orchestra will be heard in
an arrangement of familiar carols,
two movements from Tschaikow
sky’s “Nutcracker Suite” and will
join the choir in a presentation of
Fred Waring’s arrangement of
“T’was the Night Before Christ
mas” and other specialty numbers
Mr. Fraser will conduct the
choir in several groups of Christ
mas selections including the
modern carols “The Three Kings”
by Healy Wiilian, “The First Noel”
by Harry C. Banks, and “Bulula
low” by Peter Warlock, which are
not too often heard. Reginald Res
nik, a graduate of Western Re
serve University and the choir’s
student teacher, will direct the
Healey Willian's composition. Other
songs in this section of the program
are carol arrangements by Robert
Shaw as recorded by his Victor
Chorale.
Kay Powell, Shaw senior, will
present Tschaikowsky’s “The Dance
of the Sugar Plum Fairies” as a
ballet number. Eleven solo voices
in the old English song, “The
Twelve Days Before Christmas”,
will be heard with a two-piano ac
companiment by Marion Peters
and Janet Sampson, also both
seniors.
Calilng the attention of PTA
members to this popular event of
the week before Christmas, Mr.
Edward A. Hiss, president, said,
“I am counting it a ‘must* in my
own schedule and certainly join
with Mr. Blough in extending a
cordial invitation to all those in
our community who love the old
familiar Christmas carols.”
Admission to the program is
free and there are no reserved
seats.
KIRK TO ENJOY
STUDENT PROGRAM
That “Christmasy feeling” will
really begin to envelop members
of the Kirk PTA when they at
tend the annual holiday program,
put on by the students, Monday,
December 19th, at eight o’clock.
This year, in addition to the mu
sic there will be a pantomine, “Why
the Chimes Rang’’, with Mr. Albert
Martin, teacher of dramatics, as
narrator. Participating will be
Carol Hawthorne, James Marinelli,
Sandra Miller, Warren Ledger, Do
lores Schwimmer, Tom Tucker,
Gene Donaldson and Lawrence
Covey. Martin, and his student
stage crew, have constructed the
stage setting.
Approximately 200 voices com
prise the seventh and eighth grade
chorus, which, under the direction
of Miss Louise Farrant, will sing
“Ring Out, Oh Bells”, Rise Up
Shepherds” and “Away In A Man
ger”.
Because of the illness of Miss
Marjorie Shields, director of the
ninth grade chorus, Mr. Reginald
Saturday, December 17th at the
Resnik, Western Reserve Univer
sity graduate and the practice
teacher of the choir, will direct this
group.
Songs to be sung by them in
clude “Deck the Halls”, “Silent
Night”, “O Come All Ye Faith
ful”, “Fairest Lord Jesus”, “Carol
of the Bells”, “Lullaby of the
Christ Child”, “Susanni” and
“Angels We Have Heard On High”.
A girls’ sextet, which will be
heard, is composed of Nancy Mag
nusson, Sally Colchin, Georgiean
Gumto, Carole Jablonski, Martha
Southgate and Janet Mendenhall.
Accompanists are Janet Sprinkle
and Virginia Brown.
Under the direction of Mr. S.
Robert Fraser the orchestra will
play special arrangements of fa
miliar carols and a selection
“Hansel and Gretel”.
