There is no doubt about it—foot

Three boys who were proof of
the situation are shown here as
they cavorted on a grassy plot

We caught them in action Mon

It seemed odd to see the three
youngsters, fully clad despite the
muggy temperatures, getting the
feel of football.
“Well, we just had to let Smitty
try out his Christmas presents”
was the answer we got when ques
tioning the boys as to why they
weren’t “in season”.
The youngsters are pupils at
Chambers School and their pigskin
fever at this early date can be
traced to Shaw Stadium. All three
of them have high hopes of some
day (or night) being on a Shaw
High football team.
Make a note of these names and
see if the boys’ dreams come true
in five or six years! s.w.m.
Know Your
Safety Signs
To Stay Alive
“Know your signs of life—and
stay alive!”
Sgt. William Hartford of the
traffic division of the East Cleve
land Police Dept, advises us that
signs of life are the traffic signs,
signals and pavement markings
which remind motorists and pedes
trians of the law and warn them
of potential dangers on the road
ahead.
The phrase, “signs of life,** is
appropriate, he explained, because
countless lives would be saved if
all drivers and walkers learned to
recognize these traffic signs and
tried to follow their directions with
courtesy.
If drivers would learn these five
shapes, he said, they would know
immediately what to expect when
they saw one of these signs, for
each shape carries a distinctive
type of message.
Listed below are the basic sign
shapes:
CORRECTION
Last week we made two mistakes.
(1) We tried to re-locate Markad
Motor Co., Ford dealer at Euclid
and Superior for longer than we
can remember. In their ad the ad
dress was 13200. Right number is
13219 Superior near Euclid. (2) We
should have included in the same
ad the fact that 1954 Fords for
$275 down and $55 a month (in
cluding ALL charges) are BRAND
NEW cars. Incidentally there are
some still available. They’re 2
door, 6-passenger sedans.

1. EIGHT SIDED, yellow and
black or red and white. This means
STOP—one message, one require
ment—never anything else.
2. DIAMOND, also yellow and
black. This sign indicates danger
ahead, carries such messages as
School, Narrow Bridge, Men Work
ing, or the directional symbols
describing curves, intersections,
side roads, etc. They mean: slow
down, stay alert.
3. RECTANGULAR, white with
black or colored lettering. These
tell of speed limits, mark no pass
ing zones, give other regulatory
information, such as parking rules.
4. ROUND, yellow with black
letters, warn of a highway rail
road intersection. These signs call
for reduced speed and extra cau
tion.
5. RAILROAD CROSSBUCK
marks the intersection of highway
and railway. Cross only when the
way is clear.
These five sign shapes actually
can save lives if they are recog
nized and obeyed.
