Rules For
Christmas
Decoration
With Christmas chimes, Christ
mas trees and holy decorations.
,Again Fred W. Lange, chief of
the East Cleveland Fire Depart
ment, sounds a warning note for
a safer and happier Christmas an
nounces the rules and regulations
of his department relative to the
decorations of Christmas trees and
other decorations of the season.
All materials and all electrical
equipment or devices intended for
decorating or illuminating of any
Christmas tree or other decorating
plan, must bear the label or the
listing of nationally accepted test
ing laboratory and be approved by
the fire marshall. The sale of any
thing to the contrary is also pro
hibited under the Ohio General
Code.
Natural trees, explains Mr.
Lange, will be permitted in public
places and stores under the super
vision of the Inspecting Officer and
under the following conditions:
1. Height of trees shall not ex
ceed ten (10) feet, without special
permission.
2. No trees shall be permitted
in passageways or near places of
egress of public buildings, such as
theaters, churches, assembly halls,
department stores, schools and
hospitals.
3. No electric lights or electric
wiring will be permitted on or un
der large trees. Lighting shall be
indirect (on very small trees, lights
will be permitted but must be
turned off when no one is in at
tendance). No candles or open
flames shall be permitted on or
near trees. All Christmas decora
tions must be flameproofed to
meet the requirements of the
State Law.

“Fire in any crowded public
building”, the chief points out,
“may easily lead to panic. Smok
ing and flammable decorations in
public buildings are a bad com
bination: neither are allowed.
Waste materials should be re
moved at once. Aisles, exits and
firedoors must be unobstructed.
Exits should be clearly marked.
Report any blocked exit or fire
hazard in public buildings to your
fire chief.
Automatic fire detection and
alarm equipment, sprinklers, hand
hose and fire extinguishers should
be ready to operate. Sprinklers
should not be obstructed by piles
of goods, decorations or temporary
partitions.
Do your part in discouraging the
use of wax candles at church
candlelight services electric
candles are just as effective and
a lot safer.”
Junior High Choir
At Baptist Church
A “Junior High” Choir is being
organized at the East Cleveland
Baptist Church, according to its
music chairman, S. Robert Fraser.
The first rehearsal of the choir
will be today, Thursday, at 3:15
p. m. at the church at Rosemont
and Euclid. Anyone of junior high
school age is eligible to attend.
Under the direction of Jane
Carroll, the church organist and
choir director, the group will re
hearse weekly, with performances
limited to less than once a month.
The first appearance of the choir,
in a church service, is scheduled
for Sunday, December 19th.
