Nelson Jewel ers, who were runners-up for the 1956 title, have an unblemished record to pace the Shaw Division while Kennedy’s Men’s Shop is setting the pace in the Superior Hill Division with a current 4-1 record. The Nelson nine has es tablished a remarkable record of producing in the “clutch” as they have proceeded to run up a string of six straight victories. AND AIR CONDITIONING fective combination of excellent pitching, timely hitting and an air-tight defense has limited their opponents to a total of only five runs six games. On Monday night, they spotted the Police team two runs in the first inning and then proceeded to score in each of the remaining five frames to chalk up ,an easy 12-2 victory. Last Friday they again came from be hind to register a 3-1 win over Koenig Sports Goods as John Kepich limited the losers to a first-inning single and struck out 12 Koenig batters. Jack West, a husky left-hander catcher, Phil Bolton, Tom Brezavec, Christy Tartare and Tom Perry are sea soned 12-year-olds whose experi ence is paying off for Manager Jim Marinelli’s well-coached club. The Kennedy team, whose only loss was a 2-0 decision to Nelson’s, is hoping to avenge that defeat when the two clubs meet at Shaw Field next Monday evening. Bill Myles’ strong entry also uses a quintet of 12-year-old performers to good advantage. They include Dennis Erne, Kevin Porath, Bill Brelo, Bob Rainey and John Dement. The latter player, who alternates with Erne between first base and the pitching mound, turned in his best hurling effort of the season last Thursday when he held Stonebraker Drugs to one hit and struck out 11 of the 15 batters he faced. Jimmy Bezdek, hard-hitting Stonebraker center fielder, was the only batter able to solve Dement’s right-handed offerings when he opened the fourth inning with a single, took second on a passed ball and scored on a throwing error by Dement. The second-half race in the Pony League got under way last week with East End Nash and Ken nedy’s Men’s Shop expected to battle down to the wire for the title. These two strong teams are evenly-matched as evidenced by the fact that they finished in a tie for the first-half championship with identical 8-1 records, each losing to the other. The “rubber game’’ in this natural rivalry is scheduled for next Monday when the two teams clash at Forest Hills Park. Honnegger Catering is the popu lar choice to continue their win ning ways in the Colt League al though any of the other three teams are capable of disputing their claim to league supremacy The G.E. Litesox have been se lected by many as a definite “dafrk horse” in the second half fight since their pitching staff is capably manned by an outstand ing quartet of hurlers consisting of Tim Wood, Dave Moore, Don Gacey and Tom Gibson. Evidence of G. E. strength was produced on Monday night when the Litesox overpowered the Kiwanis Club, 9-5, in a six-inning game shortened by darkness. The Sox pounded four Kiwanis pitchers for seven runs in the first two innings and good relief work by Moore stopped a Kiwanis rally. Hit By Auto Taken to Huron Road Hospital for observation and treatment last Saturday afternoon was three year-old Laura Thomas of 1034 East 146th st., who was injured as she darted out into the path of a car on Knowles ave. Driver of the station wagon that hit the girl, a Cleveland furniture mover, told police his vehicle was traveling only 20 to 25 miles per hour, a fact later born out by tests of skid marks left at the ac cident scene. Witnesses to the incident stated that without warning Laura ran into the street in front of the on coming car. Laura suffered contusions of the head and later was released from the hospital. The driver was not held. New In Forest Hills A new Forest Hill home at 3579 Northvale blvd. has been sold to Mrs. Georgia D. Debes of Uni versity Heights.
