Two Shaw High School graduates are among the new officers of the Cleveland Chap ter of the Kent State University Alumni Association as the re sult of the May 7th election. Jay A. Hollingsworth Shaw 1948 is the president and Ron ald Rice, also of the Shaw ’48 class is the new treasurer. The other officers are Robert Mathews, vice president, and Lois Elzeer, secretary. Kent graduates interested in joining the Cleveland Chapter may call Mr. Hollingsworth at CH 1-1360. Cynthia Scott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth D. Freedom Award To Paul Wisely Among the seven Greater Cleveland teachers to be recipi ents of the new Valley Forge Classroom Teacher medals is Paul Wisely, 15648 Wyatt rd. a member of the Cleveland Heights High School faculty. B. auditorium, East 18th retired in June 1958 as minister of Windermere Methodist Church of East Cleveland, a congregation he served for 16 years, died May 7th in Winter and Euclid ave., May 22nd through May 24th. Sessions start at 6:45 p. m. Highlight of the convention will be his lecture, “A Paradise Earth Through God’s Kingdom,” which will be given at 3:00 p. m. Sunday. Park, Fla., where he had re sided since last October. His successor here, the Rev. Thur man Alexander conducted the services in the church Monday, May 7th. Born in Sherrodsville, Ohio, Dr. McQueen prepared for the ministry at Mount Union Col lege and the University of Boston. He was superintendent of the Steubenville District when called to East Cleveland. Not only did the congregation find a great spiritual leader but a man whose abilities carried them through a financial crisis, the rebuilding of their church razed by fire while also grow ing to become the second larg est Methodist congregation in this area. In addition to his many special assignments in the de nomination, local, state and national, Dr. McQueen served as a trustee of St. Luke’s Hos pital, a member of Kiwanis of East Cleveland and president of the East Cleveland Ministers Association. Lloyd McQueen of Steubenville, and a sister, Mrs. Lewis Roof of Delroy, Ohio. William M. Councell William (Bill) M. Councel, well known in high schools athletic and business circles, died May 14th in St. Luke’s Hospital. Services were held in East Cleveland Congregational Church where he had been a member for 35 years and long a trustee. Burial was made in his native Marion, Ind. Contributions may be made to the William M. Councell Memorial Fund in care of the Purdue University Alumni Scholarship Fund, Lafayette, Ind. Mr. Councell was associated with the East Cleveland Public schools, from 1921 to 1933 as a coach in football and basket ball, and for 25 years as busi ness manager for the Board of Education. He was atheletic director at Western Reserve University from 1947 to 1950 and had been business manager in the Parma school system since 1951. He was a past president of. the Ohio Association of Public School Business Association, a' former commissioner of the' Metropolitan School Baseball League, a past president of the I Touchdown Club, secretary of! the Lake Erie League, and! member of the American Leg-j ion, the Masons, Kiwanis of East Cleveland. His fraternity at Purdue was Alpha Tau Omega. He was well known as a con sultant in the designing and operation of athletic fields. He also was a researcher in school lighting for the General Elec tric Co. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. George N. Havens and Mrs. John V. Moll Jr., five grandchildren, and a brother, Charles C. of Washington, D. C. His wife, Bernice, preceded him in death. MINOR, Elizabeth, suddenly May 18th at her home, 1870 Forest Hills blvd.
