The repair job will not take as long as originally thought. N. F. Leist, assistant to the superintendent says that it will be in swimming order when classes return next week. The welfare department was happy to learn that people were still warmhearted. The re sponse to aid those in need was “very good.” Bill Robertson, a city engi neering employee for 36 years retired at the close of this year. He may take his retirement casually in Florida. After supper, they’ll leave for a weekend camping trip at Camp Klein in Hampden, Ohio, returning Sunday after noon. Other than having fun, their major objective will be to pass as many tests as possible so there will be more First Class Scouts eligible for the election to be held at the troop meeting Jan. 5th to determine the lucky winner of the expense-paid trip to the National Jamboree at Colorado Springs, Colorado next July. Total expense is $200 and the money was earned by the scouts themselves on their monthly paper sales last fall. Minimum requirement among many others is that the winner be a First Class Scout prior to the elec tion by the troop members. Members of the troop who worked on the monthly paper sale on Dec. 19th, earned a to tal of $50.82 to be credited to their own personal camp fee either for the Jamboree or for the Troop Camp at Camp Beau mont in August. Next paper sale is scheduled for Jan. 23rd. Cub Scouts of Pack Six who are 10% and expect to graduate into the troop within the next four months, have been invited to attend this camp this week end. Fathers of cubs or scouts are also invited to attend. In addition to the usual camp activities, there will be tourna ments with prizes for winners including checkers, chess, bad minton, ping-pong, and volley ball. Transportation will be fur nished by parents with the pa-d trol leaders making the arrange ments. Meals will be troop style with patrols taking turns pre paring them. They Got His Number A license plate that dropped off the driver’s car at the time of an accident was the clue that led police to the door of Robert Sullivan, 38 of Coit rd. Sullivan had been involved in an accident Nov. 22nd when his car approached a stop sign on Claiborne near Hayden and hit a car that was stopped. Sullivan and the driver spoke at the time and the other driver went to call police when he returned Sullivan was gone. But Sullivan’s license was on the scene police traced him through that. When they arrived at his house 40 minutes later they took Sullivan to police head-[ quarters where they questioned him and gave him an alcometer, test. His reading at that time was .40 which is diagnosed toi mean intoxicated. Sullivan was fined $350 and costs Dec. 24th and given a two day jail sentence by Judge Stanton Addams for driving while intoxicated. Sullivan pleaded not guilty to the charge and said in his defense that he didn’t have any alcohol until he got home at which time he said he was wor ried about the accident and drank a bottle of vodka in the 40-minute span it took the police to get there. Judge Ad dams didn’t believe him and the driving while intoxicated charge stuck. Louis Powell, 56 of 2509 East 57th st., is now serving a 30 day jail sentence meted out for driving while intoxicated Dec. 26th. Powell was also fined $100 and costs. It was his first of fense. Sentence was passed Dec. 29th. McDermott-Campbell Announcement is made of the engagement of Jean Ann McDer mott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. D. McDermott, 1276 East 135th st. to James Alan Camp bell, son of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Campbell, 370 Green rd. Miss McDermott is a June graduate of Shaw High.
