Hopes for a Safe Holiday What does the approach of Christmas mean to the East Cleveland police department “I suppose it means the same thing to us that it means to any one else,” was Chief H. S. Weaver’s first smiling reply. “After all. most of us are family men. I’d say we’re looking for ward to it.” But the traffic problems oc casioned by any holiday, anl the Christmas holiday shopping period in particular, are never far from a good police officer’s, mind. “Of course we’re very con cerned about maintaining East Cleveland’s good safety record,” Chief Weaver continued, “and we’re well aware that this can be a critical period. Crowds of shoppers, in cars and on foot, create traffic problems which we all must meet with patience and intelligence. The chief asked shoppers to cooperate by: Taking advantage of off-rush hours whenever possible. Completing their shopping be fore the last-minute “crisis.” Showing consideration for others by driving with care. Avoiding the temptation to double park, even for a moment Observing the directions of traffic officers.
