Six pairs of twing competed for a

A woman died the other day at Nor
toaville who weighed 320 pounds.
The wedding suit of a Wellington
man was stolen the other night, but for
tunately after he was married.
The Kansas university is a good deal
set up because a Harvard graduate is
sending bis sen to Lawrence this year.
There are 1232 lot9 in Hiawatha and
out of that number only eighty-six that
allowed the taxes to become delinquent.
The recent marriage of its editor,
Mr. Davis, is a pleasing proof of the
prosperity of the Junction City Tri
bune. John Hutch ings, a citizen of Law
rence whom that town and the state of
Kansas could ill afford to lose, is very
critically 111.
A Wichita bank clerk, who tried to
put on more style than the president of
the institutional which he is employed
is in trouble.
The trial of Brennan, the slayer of
Sara Wood, has been post poned until
November 4 on account of the sickness
of Mrs. TVood.
Wichita has a resident who was once
an oyster pirate. He sold his yacht,
came west, and is now a respected and
wealthy citizen.
The city of Horton has 1,467 lots upon
which the taxes are delinquent. It
costs the county $147.70 to pay the ad
vertising bill on them.
Oats will average about forty bushels
to the acre in Riley eounty. The horses
at Fort Riley always create a good
home market for that cereal.
The presentation of a $1,000 check to
an Emporia bride by her father estab
lishes the social supremacy of that
town over Topeka and Wichita.
Cottonwood trees which sprouted
from "slips" in the Missouri bottoms
near Atchison in 1881 now measure
fifty-two inch? s in circumference.
Atchison Champion: Jupiter will
continue to be the evening star during
September, provided always that the
Hoi ton Recorder does not object.
The Great Bend mills sometimes sell
i million pounds of bran a day. The
cows and hogs in the vicinity of that
town must live on the fat of the land.
Seventeen thousand seven hundred
pieces of property were sold for taxes
this fall in a certain Kansas town situ
ated between Newton and Wellington.

At Gueda they say thero is a wonder

university. His name is Heizo Jasano.

Two companies of the regular ,army
from Fort Riley are makinir the yearly
thirty days' march prescribed by the
government. They are marching
through the state.
One hardware firm in Hiawatha has
sold fruit cans enough to supply one
can for each man, woman and child in
the county, besides three or four extras
for Ewing Herbert
Ralph M. Easley, for twelve years
the able editor of the Hutchison News,
has severed his connection with that
journal to accept an editorial position
on the Chicago Inter-Ocean.
Lane university at Lecompton opened
this year with a big attendance, which
will make the old faculty which
thought they had killed that institution
by resigning feel kind of cheap.
The demand for farm help at good
wages this summer and fall is unpre-.
cedented In the history of western Kan
sas. Farmers have more work than
they can io and help is scarce. Ker

The Wellington Mail tells about an
'apple tree near Belle Plaine which is
filled with fruit of the Golden Russett
and Maiden Blush varieties, which are
said to be growing on the same branch

C. Wood Davis of Wichita, was
recently offered 8 big salary to travel
in Europe for a publishing firm, but he
declined the tempting proposition.

VEIN A 90 foot.well defined vein in porphrey and granite, mineralized from wall to wall. A
rotten red and yellow Iron ore with streaks and pockets of hard, black Iron ore, all carrying
gold in paying quantities.
DEVELOPMENT: Over one half mile of development work on veins consisting of shaft 175
feet, with tunnels, levels, cross cuts, stops, etc., proving an immense body of ore.
ORE : Frox grass roots to bottom of shaft, and from wall to wall as says from J8.00 to 1105.00
per ton averaging by mill tests, saved on the plates, from $3.00 to 87.00 per ton.
COST: Can be mined and milled by a small plant, say 25 tons per day, for 11.25 to 81.50 per
ton, and on a large seale of say 300 to 500 tons per day, at 75 cents per ton, and possibly less.
VALUE: E-timated to be worth, by different parties who claimed to know the value of such
a mine at 81,000,000.00. If ore Increases in value for 100 feet additional depth, as it has for the
last 50 feet, it, would be the greatest gold mine on this continent.
The mine Is under the personal supervision of a competent mining man, one of the principal
stockholders, who has been interested in the property from Its discovery.
The stock will increase In value and pay dividends during '92.
