THURSDAY, MARCH 1. PARABLE OF THE FALSE SHEEP FOLD. Picture in your mind a fine large paature, aurroundea oy a atrong and high fence, "tbe law of God", which keepa the aheep within, but which recognizee no means of ac cess to the fold (justified condition) except Christ the door, faith in whose sacrifice for ain ia the only way into tbe aheep fold. All climb ing up some other way are thieves and robbers. This is tbe pasture provided by tbe Good Shepherd for his sheep, for whom He once laid down Hie kfe. Into the true fold quite a flock of sheep have entered. They belong to the true shepherd, but aa we look at tbe grassy slopes only a few aheep aeem to be enjoying the lib. erty wherewith Chriat makes free little flock indeed. Where were the others? We look, and aee inside the door, on either side the path way, small enclosures. Over each ia written peculiar names, Presby terian, Methodist, Baptist, Second Adventist, Romtfn Catholics, Greek Catholics, Lutherans, etc. Looking at these pens we see they differ. Some are built like prisons, with iron framea and bare and chains, others lees strong, some are merely marked out dead lines, over which tbe sheep understand they must not go. These pens are full of aheep; they are weak and sickly and delicate for want of proper exerciae and nour ishing food; they are regularly ted, but only upon busks, with a little milk occasionally. But they eat without relish, and get no good from it; many of them are leaner aud poorer than they were when they first went in; and aome have become blind. Strange to aay each seems to be perfectly satisfied with his own pen, and seldom does any attempt to escape. We also noticed tbst under-shepherds bad been ap pointed to help pasture the sheep, and that they had constructed these pens, but apparently - without the permission cf tbe Chief Shepherd. Perplexed to know why the sheep submitted to be penned, we watched to see how tbe sheep were induced to enter the enclosures. As they entered through tbe door faith in Christ) each under-ehep herd tried to impress on them tbe necessity of getting into one of tbe many pens, and tbe one lie repre sented in particular. Aa a consequence nearly all the sheep got penned that entered tbe fold, for they trusted the shepherds, and followed tbemajority;andonly a few paased on to enjoy the liberty nf the fold. Tbe under-shepherds aougbt continually to impress on tbeir sheep that the free aheep were heretics enroute to destruction. We watched to see the outcome of matter, for we learned that aome were expecting the return of tbe Chief Shepherd and we knew that His coming would aoon demon strate whether He would approve the dividing of Hie flock and their imprisoning. Nearly all tbe under- shepherds claimed that tbe Chief Shepherd would not come till they had got all tbe penned. Presently we heard great rejoicing. Some of the tree sheep had heard the voice of the Chief Shepherd and had recognized His voice. We looked snd indeed tbe Chief Shep herd had come, hence tbe rejoicing amongst the free abeep, He had come io the night as quietly aa thief, unobserved by any but those who were watching. Some of tbe imprisoned abeep heard the Chief Shepherd's voice. They looked and liatened, yet could acarce believe. Itwaa indeed tbe voice of the Chief Shepherd aa He tended His flock. His true sheep seemed to bear Hia voice condemning the penning pro cess and saving to all His sheep "come out." Some lesped tbe fences snd thns gained liberty, and food from the Chief Shepherd's band while otbera were ao weak aod faint lack of nourishment that they trem bled with anticipation, yet would not come out for fear of tbe under shepherds. We noticed thst outside some of the free sheep brought food to the bsrs, thus nourishing the week one till they were strong enough to lesp tbe fences. Tbs un-der-sbepherds mesnwbils were alert with redoubled vigilance, and by varying policies aougbt to keep control of tbeir flocke. Soma denonnced and acoffed at tboae without, and threatened the beep within; and others redoubled the customary exerclaea, the forma ofOodlloeaa. We waited to aee the outcome, and aaw the unfaithful uoder-abepherda bound and beaten with many atrlpea, the priaon pena all destroyed, and tbe fold used aa designed, one flock, its name one, snd ita head the true Shepherd who gave Ilia life for tbe abeep, tbe Lord Jeaua Cbrlat.
