At the close of the afternoon an elegant lnncbeon was served. Saturday evening Miss Marga ret Opperman entertained at whist complimentary to Miss Zela Anderson of Joplin. Strow, a respected cit izen of this city, died very sud denly at his home in the south east part of town on Thursday forenoon of last week. The doc tor had gone to see him, and had just taken his temperature, Mr. Strow remarked tljat he did not think he had any fever, and the examination of the doctor verified this. The doctor had gone into one corner of the room to clean his thermometer, when one of Mr. Strow's son's cried, "Look.' The doctor turned around just in time to see the man straighten out rigidly,. with clinched hands and teeth. Within a couple of moments Mr. Strow was dead. The doctor made up his mind there was something suspicious in the manner of death, so a post mortem examination was made, and the presence of strychnine was found both in the stomach and urine. Mr. Strow for some time has thought he was afflicted with heart trouble, and wheather he had taken the poison for this trouble or for some other reason will probably never be known. Funeral services were held on Friday afternoon of last week. andfthe remains were interred in the Baxter cemetery. Mr. Strow was an old soldier, being a mem ber of the Baxter Post G. A. R. He was also a member of Baxter Lodge of Odd Fellows, who at tended the funeral in a body. Mr. Strow leaves a widow and several grown sons to mourn his death. Used by ttMlons tm ) A. J. Thompson, D. Miss Nellie Apple was the hostess of the Avon Club Monday afternoon, March 30th. The members answered the roll call by giving quotations from Mid summer Night's Dream, and the last two acts of the play were read. Misses Covey, Perkins and Apple contributed music, and lunch was served by the hostess. The club will be entertained April 6th by Miss Grace Perkins, when the course of study for the year will be concluded. Return Date for Irma Comlo Opera Company. .
