Booster Day. Next Saturday, Dec 17, is the Day, and of Course Barter Springs is the Place. The last Booster Day for 1910 will occur next Saturday, Dec 17, and the place where the big doings will be pulled off will of course be Baxter Springs, the home of Booster Days. On that day something more than fifty prizes will be given away, and the real beauty of this is that it costs nothing to have a try at the prizes. The only require ments are that you live outside the corporate limits of the city, and that you register your ticket in person. If the weather is good next Saturday there will be a record' breaking crowd in town. In fact we look for the biggest crowd ever seen here, except, of course, during the big reunions. And inasmuch as the crowd will be a big one, it behooves everybody to get into town on that day. It is only a week from that day till Christmas, and holiday shoppers are going to be very numerous. Make it a point to register early in the day, and then go and do your shopping. The prize draw ing will take place immediately after the close of the registra tion, at 3 o'clock, and if you wait until late to do your trading you may find it hard to get waited on. Therefore, come early, reg ister early, and make your pur chases early. The stocks of goods to be on display next Saturday will be the finest ever shown in Baxter Springs. Th9re will be every thing in the way of the needfuls of iife,-and in addition there will be immense, mammoth and huge lines of holiday goods on display. The merchants of Bax ter Springs are not a set of hogs and they are going to make prices which will move car loads of goods on that day. Baxter Springs is the place to come on next Saturday if you want' to buy anything, or if you want to have a real good time and get your eyes full. To Baxter Springslpeople we want to make this suggestion: Next Saturday morning early buy what you have to get that day. Don't expect to be waited on later in the'day, for the town is going to be brimful of people from out of town, and you ought by all means give the merchants a chance to wait on the out of town trade. Order your grocer ies early in the morning, in the evening before if possible, so de livery can be made to you early in the morning. By doing this you can in a measure avoid the rush that is sure to come. Do your holiday shopping now Only nine more shopping days till Christmas. 1 The biggest show at the Ma jestic Theatre" Saturday after noon and night you ever saw for the small sum of 10c Come and bring the family. . If there has been doubt in the minds of any of the citizens over the construction of the Oklahoma & Kansas Electric Railroad to connect Galena with Baxter Sorings and Miami and also Col umbus such doubt probably, has been dispelled by the company's latest action in taking over Franklin Smith's railroad line from Miami to Hattonville at a cost of $50,000, the money for which has been paid over. Ac cording to reports of the sale $35,000 was paid for the rightof- wav and $15,000 for the rails. It is also announced that the engine which has been in use on this line for many months will be used in hauling material from Miami for the completion of the line and as soon as possible the Miami Hattonville line will be electri fied. As previously stated the plans of the company call for the con struction of a line from Galena to Miami and at a point near the Empire District company's big plant at Riverton another line of the road will branch off to Col umbus, where connection will be made with the Heim line to Pitts burg. At Seventh and Main streets in Galena the new line will connect with the line of the Southwest Missouri Railway com pany, thus furnishing a belt line connecting Galena, Columbus, Pittsburg and Joplin. In connection with the deal iust closed it is stated that nego tiations are pending for the use of the Southwest Missouri tracks between Galena and Joplin and as a result of the plans no on it not improbable that Galena and Joplin will be connected by dou ble track by that company. At present there are two com panies in the deal and this order will continue until the two can be merged. At a meeting of the financiers, promoters and officers of the new company Wm. Houk, of the Conqueror Trust company of Joplin, was elected president of the Smith company, and will hold this office until the consoli dation can be effected according to the lawsof the different states. The officers chosen for the Okla homa & Kansas line were Presi dent, Charles M. Jones of Bax ter Springs; Vice President, John M. Cooper of Baxter Springs; Manager, M. C. Harper of Mus kogee, Okla., Directors, Wm. Houk of Joplin; J. Shotnon of Galena; L. Murray Perkins, J. J." Fribley, Thos. F. Cole, E. B. Morgan, E. W. Dow and Chas. L. Smith of Baxter Springs; Dr. W. L. Mc Williams, of Miami. For the present the offices of the officers have Jeen moved to Miami. The city in which the general offices will be located permanently will be decided up on later. The plans of the new company call for the installation of equip ment of the latest' and most im proved patterns and all cars used will be on the order of those used on the Heim line between Joplin and Pittsburg while powerful electric engines will be used for handlincr freizht trains. It is stated that the freight trains will be operated between the hours of 11 p. tn. and 5 a. m. in order that there will be no inter ference with the passenger traffic but at intervals during the day express cars will be operated to handle the small package and parcel business.
