As stated, we are on Route 4, and in Ottawa county, Okla., right among the many romantic hills and dells, where the clear water breaks from the bowels of mother earth to quench and re fresh the sons and daughters of men. Nature here at this time is scenic and grand. At the foot of high bluffs and cliffs may be seen tne city-urea ana country- hungry from Baxter and Galena, sitting in profound silence and with the patience of a Job, hold ing a hook in the limpid waters in sweet anticipation of a catch. He sits there from early till late, and when the sun is sinking low behind the western hills he is re minded by his wife (or would-be' one) that it is time for depart ure. He riseth up stiff in limb. but glib in tongue, and goeth back to Baxter a bigger and bet ter liar than when he came. To the south of us is the pic turesque little city of Peoria, hidden between two hills and on Warren's branch. The hills on the north and south are cut to sundry and manifold changes of the world, our hearts may surely there be nxea wnere true joys are to be lounci: tnrougn Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. The Epistle is from St. James 1: Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls." The Holy Gospel is from St. John 16: "He shall glorify Me." Services for the worship of Al mighty God according to the Ho ly Scripture and the Book of Com mon Prayer will be held in St. Mark's church, Baxter Springs, at 8 p. m. You are very welcome to enter into the charm of our Evensong and to use over again the praises and prayers of a long line of saintly souls who are at rest in the paradise of God since the church began. Nothing is left to the eccentricity of the minister except the sermon, which may be mere words, and not worship. City Sustained. The law and order league, a recent publication of what pieces by men who are hunters of deemed to be for the good of the mineral. The hills are full of lead and jack, and all one has to do is dig the mineral out and sell it and he is a rich man. Sometimes the city gets a little behind on money matters and rents itself out for pasture. The city has three stores, yes, four of them, and a blacksmith shop, There is enough garden stuff raised in Peoria to supply Bax ter Springs and save the editor from getting his shirt wet and dirty working in that 8x16 patch of earth. To the north of us are the clear and pure waters of the Five Miles, Big and Little the camp ing and fishing resorts of hun dreds where much beer and other bottled goods are consumed in large and small quantities where love matches are made and the happy fires are kindled, resulting in happy unions; where gloom and misery are dispelled and bade to return no more; where you eat what you have and at times that of your neigh' bors, then plunge into the hidden thickets and become lost to man kind for a while. What a beautiful and romantic countrv to live in! to fish in! to starve in! to die in! and when the end comes, peaceful and tranquil as a May breeze, one slips off into the Great Beyond to reap what he has sown. Pardon us for infringing on vour space and time on our first appearance. We will now side step and walk in a zigzag way a short time. Ed. McConkey made a trip to Joplin Sunday. Hctry Horto. City Marshal. ' city ana community in genera makes use of a statement which puts tne council and mayor in the clear regarding many things for which they have been con demned and found fault with. Among the many paragraphs in the manifesto referred to, the league tells the law applying to many things, and in conclusion says: These are state laws, and it is not deemed conductive to the best interests of a municipality to attempt to regulate by ordin anre acts in violation thereof." Now will those who have been so unfair as to find fault with the mayor and council be fair enough to shut up? We shal find out by their actions in the future.
