s.V All that is possible to do is being done by the members of the Butler CountyAgricultural Society to make the 70th anniversary of the Butler County Fair the greatest and big gcst ever in the long history of the fair. Secretary M. D. Urmston open ed the offices of the board in the court house Thursday morning, and his as sistants are kept very busy receiving entries for the various departments. Mr. Urmston says there never was in the history of the fai rso many entries ill the week before the fair as there is this year. Every mail brings in dozens of them, and the local people never responded or showed so much interest as they are doing this yeai Judging from appearance there never was such display of fruits and farm products at the fair as is going to be there next week. This is due to the enormous crops of this season. Corn You never did see such corn as you will see at the big fair. Present indications are that outside the big state fair at Columbus, the lo cal show will outshine all county fairs of the state. Many special and high-priced free attractions have been provided by the fair board, amonp. them being auto polo, aeroplane flights, four bands, with Barberton's Famous Lady Band on Saturday. Auto polo is a new stunt for this vicinity, and is already stirring keen interest, every one being anxious to get a glimpse of this hair-raising and thrilling sport. Usually there is a ca» or two smashed and a few players in jured in the game, but that is what the public seems to like and that 'HELPWANTED" Cry Is Stopped By Metal Trades Association Cincinnati.—The local branch of the National Metal Trades' Association, that is opposing the wage demands of organized machinists, has instructed its members to discontinue "help wanted advertisements until further notice." These anti-unionists proclaim their right "to run their own business," but their union now notifies them to stop advertising until "further not tice." The extensive advertisements, it is stated, are of doubtful value because they encourage the strikers and "busi ness is declining in all lines through out the country.' The antis might also state that the machinists are winning their strike. In another appeal the antis ask Contributions for the home guard. In his letter, President Dean says: "I would of course be indiscreet to put into a letter everything I know about conditions here, making it ab solutely necessary to maintain thr home guard, but let me state to you most emphatically that they are very plain, very direct and very necessary." The machinists say strikebreakers are garbed in the uniform of the home guard for the purpose of provoking violence, and that there has been no violence and property is not endan gered because of the strike. jsa i INJDREDJMPIOYES Taught New Work By Fed eral Board BUTLER COUNTY FAIR Washington.—The federal board for vocational training reports successes in training men into new employ ments by the quickest and safest route to make them competent wage earners. It is estimated that there are 600,000 persons in this country who have suffered vocational handi caps from industrial accidents. This number represents the accumulation of years. To rehabilitate these workers, and also ex-service men, the federal board has been voted money by congress to give to the various states an amount for vocational training that equals the amount appropriated by that state. The state boards must accept the edu cational plans formulated by the fed eral board. The states that have accepted the federal law are Arizona, Georgia, In diana, Iowa, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon and Tennessee. There will be music galore, four bands ha/icg been engaged, and as an added at traction Barberton's famous bai.d will give concerts on Saturday. This band has a reputation of national scope and will help draw big on Saturday, the extra day added this year. The running races are again to be a big feature this year. This is al ways good news to the speed demons, the fellows that like real action on the track. The purses for the harress events, four of which take place daily, will be the biggest ever offered here abouts in fact the horsemen say thsy are the best offered anywhere outs de the big state show. There are many other things the board has done in the way of free attractions but too nuim erous to mention. In fact the fair board never loosened up as it did this year, but as "Jack" Slade, president of the board said: "She's going to be the biggest ever if she 'busts' us she's the people's show and the people are going to get their money's worth." This was heartily seconded by Mur ray Urmston, secretary of the bo vd, who is sponsor of the running iaee events, and who insisted that the fair run on Saturday for, Murray says, "we've got too blamed much to crowd into four days." The girls' baking and sewing con tests, as well as the boys' pig judging contests are attracting the girls and boys of the county as never before. The school exhibits also promise to be an interesting feature. The stock de partments are filling up fast in the way of entries ,and the farm imple ment display will be the finest ever seen at the fair. The art hall exhibHs, always a delight to the ladies, will take up every inch of the spacious building. All in all, the seventieth annual of the big Butler county fair is to De a "peach." ment of this law these states passed their own legislation covering this subject: California, Illinois, Massa chusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ore gon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Virginia. As a first step the state boards are compiling the names and addresses of disabled individuals. This informa tion is furnished by workmen's com pensation commissions, public health commissions, hospitals and Red Cross home-service stations. The feleral board says trade unions are an aid to this movement which is intended to develop self-sustaining workers. 1R3 tei KSS PAINTERS ADVANCE New Orleans.—Organized painters have negotiated a new wage agree ment with employers.
