This is not in any sense a political proposal. It is as much a business proposal as that of any merchant who offers his goods or his services to you for sale. No business deal is worth making unless there is profit in it for both the buyer and the seller and we would not have made our proposal if we did not believe it a better one for the taxpayers and gas con sumers of Hamilton, than any other proposed method of settling Hamilton's gas problem. Believing this, we ask only that you consider our proposal, and its alternatives, solely upon their merits and upon the FACTS. Here are the proved FACTS regarding our proposal: IT IS THE ONLY PROPOSAL bearing upon Hamilton's gas problem which will enable the city within ten years to PAY OFF THE ENTIRE PRINCIPAL AND INTEREST of its gas equipment bonds, without in any way increasing taxes. It will not only do this, but will leave the city a net profit over and above the amount necessary for that purpose, which may be used either to reduce taxes or carry out other valuable improvements. IT IS THE ONLY PROPOSAL which provides for putting the city's gas distribution system in perfect condition AT NO COST WHATSOEVER TO THE CITY. It will do this and at the same time will, without cost to the city, restore the streets, wherever it will have been necessary to take them up to repair or replace the mains, to at least as good condition as at present. It does not in any way affect the city's ownership of its gas distribution system. It assures the gas consumers of Hamilton for at least ten years, an adequate, continuous and cer tain supply of natural gas, whose superiority to any other domestic fuel is conceded by all authorities on the subject. IT IS THE ONLY PROPOSAL which offers the consumers of Hamilton AN ACTUALLY LOWER PRICE FOR GAS SERVICE, as the following table shows: YOUR MONTHLY GAS BILL 1,000 cu. ft. per month..... 80c 75c 2,000 cu. ft. per month... $1.50 $1.50 3,000 cu. ft. per month 2.20 2.25 4.000 cu. ft. per month 2.90 3.00 5,000 cu. ft. per month 3.60 3.75 6,000 cu. ft. per month 4.40 4.45 7.000 cu. ft. per month 5.20 5.15 8,000 cu. ft. per month 6.00 5.85 9,000 cu. ft. per month 6.80 6.55 10,000 cu. ft. per month 7.60 7.25 This means that for the city as a whole, under our proposed rate the consumers would be charged about $45,000 a year less for gas service than they are now paying. IT IS THE ONLY PROPOSAL which offers definite, positive advantages to the City of Hamilton as a whole—its industries, its taxpayers and its gas consumers—and not to any single industry. These FACTS are presented for your information. We will be glad to answer any questions or to offer complete proof of any statement we have made or shall make.
