This will he the referendum election called by the signed petition of more than five thousand voters of Hamilton. This election is called so that the citizens of Hamilton may vote on the ordinance passed by five members of Council last October. This ordinance contracts with the Columbia Gas Supply Co. (owned by the Union Gas & Electric Co.) to supply the citizens of Hamilton with natural gas for ten years and also leases the city owned gas mains to the Columbia Gas Supply Co. for ten years. This ordinance, passed by five councilmen, is directly opposed to the contract between the City of Hamilton and the Hamil ton Furnace Co. which was approved by the vote of more than nine thousand voters of Hamilton on November 3rd. The contract with the Hamilton Furnace Co. assures the city a full supply of coke oven gas for ten years at very reasonable prices and the city would continue to operate and control the city-owned gas mains. The Hamilton Furnace Co. has put up a bond of $500,000.00 to secure a faithful performance of this contract on its part.' This special election gives over nine thousand voters of Hamilton the opportunity to decide whether their wishes will be set aside by five members of Council This election gives the voters of Hamilton the opportunity to decide whether five councilmen can lease their city-owned mains to a public utility trust for ten years. v '%r V -a, «, v A '•v. «1--' i s S s s S S T- ''f.- .* Vote on February SAMPLE BALLOT GAS REFERENDUM BALLOT sE Shall Ordinance No. 241H "Contracting with Columbia Gas Supply Company, an Ohio Corporation, for the supplying of Natural Gas to the City of Hamilton and its inhabitants," be approved?
