EAGLES Butler Aerie No. 407, Fraternal Order of Eagles, was host Monday night to John W. Heller, Jr., York, Pa., national president of the organ ization. More than 250 members of Butler Aerie, leaders in the lodge from other cities and other guests attended the meeting, which brought an address by Mr. Heller and class in itiation by the degree team of Cov ington Aerie No. 329, of Covington, Ky. Mr. Heller highly complimented the Hamilton organization. He approved of the improvements to the lodge hall on South Second street, already au thorized, and gave tribute to the work for Eagledom by Judge M. O. Burns, past national president of the order. Judge Elmer Davidson introduced the speakers. LABOR DAY COMMITTEE MEET Outing committee of Central Labor Council met at the labor temple Tues day with Chairman Gallagher presid- ing. The grounds committee reported the outing will be held at the fair grounds as usual. All committees reported arrange ments have all been made for one of the largest outings ever held by Trades Council, and a good time is assured to all who attend. Hygiene Is Discussed By Miss Helen Martin Miss Helen Martin, Public Health League nurse, who, through the social security act studied social hygiene at Western Reserve University, Cleve land, for six weeks this summer, is conducting informal discussions at the Public Health League nursing staff meetings each Monday afternoon in the municipal building. The discussions are proving most beneficial to nurses of the staff. SCRIBES' PICNIC The annual Scribes' picnic will be held one-half mile north of Venice, Saturday, August 28. As usual a large crowd will be there, and amusements of all kinds have been arranged. Decker, four year term as trustee in St. Clair township Louis W. Verbryke, clerk, Union township J. J. Doughman, Jr., constable, Union township. 355 For Relief Fund State Auditor Joseph T. Ferguson announced Tuesday at Columbus the distribution of $750,362 in sales tax receipts to counties for poor relief. COLUMBUS OHIO The Butler county share was reported $1,355. The amount included collec tion for July of amusement, beer and malt taxes and that part of the gen eral sales tax used for relief. ERASE STATE LINE FOR POLICE CHASE Butler county officials Tuesday pledged their co-operation to officials of nearby Indiana counties in connec tion with Ohio's newly enacted "fresh pursuit" law which gives police offi cers of neighboring states authority to pursue criminals into Ohio and make arrests without consulting local law enforcement agencies. i AUTO MECHANICS POST WAGE SCALE A sliding wage scale agreement, covering four classes of automobile mechanics, was adopted by members of the Hamilton Automobile Me chanics Union No. 1241, at a meet ing in the labor temple, South Sec ond street, Monday night. The agree ment becomes effective September 1. Wage scales for the four classes are: First class body and paint work ers, 90 cents an hour first class me chanics, 85 cents second class me chanics, 75 cents, and helpers, 60 to 65 cents. The agreement, already presented to employers, also stipulates an eight-hour day and 48-hour working week. There are 64 members of the union of which V. O. Carpenter is chairman. Employers have not yei taken action on the agreement.
