Recalled to a recollection of the fact that ho bad a large sum of money about him which id his excitcmsnthe had forgotten ho immediately clapped his baud to his pocket only to be more startled at tbe discovery that his wallet containing $8,000 tho proceed of .some months of iudustry and speculative enterprise had likewise disappeared. He was on his way to invest this amount in some bu.ii ness down town when thus-robbed, aud his grief at so unexpected a loss was as iuteuse as the joy 'and excitement, no doubt, oi tuo iniet or thieves upon all covering their unexpected iuck. The Workinc Women's home, in New York city, has ben making some inter esting experiments In regard to cheap living. Last October a large establish ment, capable of accommodating five hundred persons, was started for tbe pur pose of furnishing reasonable board to in- uustnoua wonting women, xne cnargo of 53 25 a week has been found ample to cover the expense of food, attendance and rent, with two hundred and thirty inmates. In order to enable the rest dents to economize still more, lodging and eating departments were organized separately. One dollar aud a quarter is now charged ior room rent, ana ioou is furnished at wholesale cost, with a slight addition fur the expense of servants' wages, fuel and breaKuges. This Jewish society held session dur ing the entire day yesterday, upon their now constitution, and voted upon it clause by clause. Iu the evening they held a secret session, in order to estab lish tho ritual of their Order.
