now being taken down and removed to
Pleasantville, the new Pennsylvania oil
dorado. It was erected in 1SG5, at a cost

Fifty dollars will hereafter be

Cincinnati, July 28. Barks, Mooro
and Jerrald, the" Adams Express rob
bers, arrested at Mattoon, Cole county,
Illinois. arrlved-t beymour, Indiana,
at half-past ten o'clock last night, and
soon after left In a wagoii with a guard
for Browuetown, to be delivered lo the
sheriff of Jackson county. When near
the vicinity where Clifton, Elliott and
lloseberry were hung, the wagon was
suddenly surrounded by about a hundred
and fifty armed men, all . marked, the
guard overpowered and tho prisoners
taken out and hung. At last accounts
thev were still hanging to the 6itne tree
where the others were huog. Previous
to the hancinir, the prisoners were ones'
tioned as lo the numerous robberies
which hare occurred in Jackson county,
but with the exception of an acknow
ledgement of small depredations, nothing
was gained from mem.

A littlo after noon yesterday a young
uerman, apparently a boat twenty years
of age, while crossing tbe Broadway
bridge, stopped to Inquire the way to
Maiden lano, which having learned, he
was. proceeding wither when be was
startled by discovering the chain of hi
watch hanging loose, and upon exami
nation found that -his watch was gone.
Recalled to a recollection of the fact that
ho bad a large sum of money about him
which id his excitcmsnthe had forgotten
ho immediately clapped his baud to his
pocket only to be more startled at tbe
discovery that his wallet containing
$8,000 tho proceed of .some months of
iudustry and speculative enterprise had
likewise disappeared. He was on his
way to invest this amount in some bu.ii
ness down town when thus-robbed, aud
his grief at so unexpected a loss was as
iuteuse as the joy 'and excitement, no
doubt, oi tuo iniet or thieves upon all
covering their unexpected iuck. The
unfortunate victim has no clue .whereby
he might uope to cause tueir arrest.

It is roported that the crew of the
American vessel Gen. Sherman, -which
was wrecked In Chinese waters, have
been beheaded by the natives wbero they
landed.

The entire rebel army, which besieged
Tien Teen', after abandoning the attempt
to tafce that city, left Ifcao river and
marched off in a southeasterly direc
tion.
Important news has also been re
ceived via Shanghae. The Makado has

Christians. Civil war continued.
The party of the Hhagoon was gain
ing strecgib. It wa3 reported that
Stobbs Baishi had raised an army of
200.000 men and assisted by a fleet of
seven vessels of war, was seriously men
aclng the city of Yeddo.

showers in abundance, and the crops

Cheap Lit ing;.
The Workinc Women's home, in New
York city, has ben making some inter
esting experiments In regard to cheap
living. Last October a large establish
ment, capable of accommodating five
hundred persons, was started for tbe pur
pose of furnishing reasonable board to in-
uustnoua wonting women, xne cnargo
of 53 25 a week has been found ample to
cover the expense of food, attendance
and rent, with two hundred and thirty
inmates. In order to enable the rest
dents to economize still more, lodging
and eating departments were organized
separately. One dollar aud a quarter is
now charged ior room rent, ana ioou is
furnished at wholesale cost, with
a slight addition fur the expense of
servants' wages, fuel and breaKuges.
Under this arrangement cotlee and tea,
wiih sugar and milk, cau be furnished
for two cants a cup ; uihk for two cents ;
meat for three cents a plate (In quantity
equal to that oi a Cheap euliughouse,
where fifteen cents are charged); a slice
Of bread abuut live inches square ami an
