Money in abundance can be obtained on good buainess paper at 3(g.4 per cent, in that city, while with us lUfgilS is the current rale. Business men should reflect upon the unhealthy condition of monetary matters in this country, with a view of remedying the evil. Planters who are holding their cotton would do well probably to consider the following, which we take from a New York circular of a recent date: The value of cotton in this market is now. gold being the basis. 2 higher Ibau it was at the corresponding date last year, and the receipts are nearly 300,000 ba'es more. It is also 2'ic or Id above the parity of Liverpool. In buying low middling for delivery in the spring months at the current value, 26c, ffi must be added to make it r.jual to Liver pool middling; commissions and oth"r charge will nnount to another Me. To sell at this cost in Liverpool without loss, at the present rales tor gold, exchange and freights, ill require 13',d. Let the speculator add to this h.s anticipated profit, and he will find that pretty high figures will is-needed to cover all. Prob ably most buyers count on au advance in gold, and, while operating in cotton only, have in mind a speculation in both. TRADE. A Humbug How Often w? Hear this expression from persons reading ad vertisements of Patent Medicines, ami in nine cases out of ten they may be right. It is ever 22 years since I iulroouced Dr. Tobias' Venetian Liuliuent to the public. I had no money to advertise it. so I left it for sale with a few druggists and storekeepers throuuli a small section of the country, many taking it with great relm-t ance: it 1 told them to let auy one have it, and If it did not do all I stated nu BIT pam phlet, no one need pay lor il. Ju some stores two or three bottlis were taken on trial by persons present. 1 a as, by many, thought crazy, and that would be the last they would see ot me. But I knew my medicine was no humbug. In aboul two mouths I btsrun to receive orders for more l.irffmenl, some call ing it my valuable Liniment, who had re fused to sign a receipt when I tell tl at then store. Now my sales are millions of bottles yearly, aou al) for cash. I warrant 11 supe rior to any oilier medicine for the cure of i ruup.
