W. M. PERKINS OS THE .MICRO
The Radicals are called upon to sup
iwrt AV. M. Teikius as one of the Inde-
1-etideDt caudkUtca for Uie legislature.
He will receive a few white Radical
votes, and the little stjuad of white in
dependent; but the colored vote cannot
be transferred to Mr. Perkins. He has
uttered the most atrocious and brutal
sentiments against the blacks. A few
years since Mr. Perkins toued to the
world a most remarkabJepamphlet. We
have before us a copy, from which we
make a few eloquent extracts f.ir the
benefit of the negro. The title-page of
Mr. Perkins's book is as follows: "Abra
ham Lincoln, late President of the
United State, demonstrated to be the
Gog of the bible, as foretold by the
prophet Esekiel in the thirty-eighth
and thiny-ninth chapters of his book of
prophecy. The thirteen Confederate
(States shown to be the mountains of Is
rael, and all the predictions contained
in the prophecy concerning them liter
ally fulfilled in tlie late war between
the north and south. Copyright secured
aseording to law. Price fifty cents per
enpy. 1866." This is the high-sounding
title of the book which Mr. Perkins
oSered for sale at "fifty cents per copy."
"We have casually read the document,
aud we must say be is not a success as
au author. If he cannot prepare a bet
ter bill than this pamphlet of fifty-six
pages, he will be a failure as a legislator.
Mr. Perkins quotes various pass
from the bible to prove that Abraham
Lincoln is the Gog of the bible. The
prefatory and introductory remarks of
Mr. Perkins's book are juicy. We give
the following extract as a sample:
A fire was to be sen I moa I be "land of Ma-

1 his is a Bible declaration that has as much
reference to the state of government matters
here as anywhere that the wicked were ever
in authority. Let the reader peruse these
pages who chooses to do so, and come to bH
own eofteJusions as to the correctness and
J astaeas sf the argamesls offered.
In the above extract, it will be seen
that Mr. Perkins, in his book, attempt
ing to prove "Abraham Lincoln the
Gog of the Bibie," starts out in his
preface by 'stigmatising the colored
noes a " a brutal and savage horde ot
t negroes," who protiose to lord
it over the whites. Mr. Perkins's hatred
of tbe negro is developed on every page
of hie book. He undertakes to prove
that their very name means "black
ness," "grossness." The following ex
tract will show Mr. Perkins's opinion of
the race, whose votes he would teek in
hi? aspirations. On page thirteen, Mr.
Perkins says: "That theee Africans
by deeeeut, are represented in the pro-
pltecy under tbe names of two African
countries1, or nationalities, seems plain
enough without further proof, having
shown that their color and instincts
agree so exactly as they do with tlie
prophetic requirements. They arc Mack
in ester, and all their very nature, both
Uxly ami mind, is so grow as to allow
them to be I Kit very few removes above
the btule creation. The very
odor emitted by their iwreoaa, the
coarseness and uat-eeralineee of
tiieir features, ami the general
stupidity of their minds, or dullness of
intellect, have only to be observed to
establish that truth. That they erigi
nally oa me from Africa, is of too recent
late to adult of denial, though some
fanatics do tleny many things ijuite a
true and almost as well known." Here
Mr. Perkins insults the negroes by Idl
ing tbem that their very nature, "both
iKMly and mind, is so gross as to allow
them to be but very few removes above
the brute creation," ami now he would
have tlieee "brutes" to march up to the
ballot-box and dejiosit tiieir votes for
him. Mr. Perkins tpiotes scripture to
prove that slavery was a divine institu
tion, and says that the fanatics of Uie
north should bestow their supeitlnous
sympathy on the white poor at their
doors. After calling the Federal sol
diers "thieves," "vandals," "robbers,"
"iJenderers," "heathens," "villains,"
aud "carpetbaggers," Mr. Perkins thus
assails the northern people and the ne
groes: Hueh are tbe shepherds spoken of by tbe
prophet, who foal the waters of life with

entered on his political life; and, whatever
opinions he may have entertained, were those
of a private citizen. The leading champions
if repudiation were Alexander U-Jl'AUtu
then senator and afterward governor, and
James Hiitm. editor of tbe Vlckibarc

E .A. TYLER.
The above will be read with interest
by all the host of friends of tbe distin
guished Ex-President whom Mr.
Etheridge brought before the public as
au illustrious example of a repudiatbw
We hope it will be copied by all papers
in or out of the State which quoted or
referred to that part of Mr. Etheridge's
speech which it corrects, and that that
distinguished gentleman himself Will
take advantage of the first opportunity
affording to set himself right, and do
Mr. Davis the justice of reading the
aboTe timely and well-considered letter
of correction. Colonel Tyler better, per
haps, than any man now living, knows
the history of Mississippi repudiation
and that of the leaders who urged or op
posed it, and the scrap of that history,
which he thus gives to the public print
at this time, when the horrible doctrine
of repudiation is being presented for our
acceptance, will be eagerly read as hav
ing a significance quite equal to that
which Mr. Etheridge intended his orig
inal statement to have.
OK THE-
MATXJIID'S DENIAL.
In tbr spirit of justice and fair play
that has always distinguished the AP
peaXj, we find place for the following
"before the election." We have no
purpose, personal or public, to subserve
by the publication of anything ,thfit
does a citizen injustice, and we are not
so mistrustful of the justice of the cause
of the Democratic party as to be influ
enced by the fear of the truth, even in
a matter so important as this. We call
particular attention to this denial of
Mr. Maynard, but hope the gentlemen
who have assured Judge Porter of the
genuineness of the speech which May
nard thus denies having made, will say
so promptly over their own signatures.
