At the close of our review of the cotton market for the last official week, middling cotton in New York quoted 11116c, de clined daring the week to 11c; New Orleans quoted 10JC and o remained; Liverpool quoted 63d, advanced to 6 3-lGd; Memphis quotea lUfC ana so remmneu. xiiw Hiate ment shows a market essentially at the same prices as s week ago. The steadiness with which cotton maintains its price ha done away with any strong expectation of fluctua tion and s quiet feeling of con6dence, with, out fear of violent decline or important de crease of demand, keeps the tone and posi tion of the market unchanged. The markets, however, an: not active, dullnetm is general. Crop news so far as received hat not been of a nature strongly to affect price or incite operation. In our own market we have had a fairly active spinner demand lor nice white cottons, but either there is little of that quality in stock, or much of what there i does not come into the mar ket, for the supply was not equal to the demand, line New York Jiulfeliiu of Saturday, says: "All things considered the tone was pretty firm. The desire to cover a few additional engagement before the holi day may have been instrumental in stimu lating values, but the impression created was that ttie market was simply held up by the power of bitldiug on the, part of one or two leading operators, l'retly much all the ac count front the Houlh were of a cheerful character, both as renjiects the weather and the condition of the plant, and the Liverpool report represented S dull, flat market. In fact, outoide influence were all favorable for the 'bears,' but no one seemed inclined to take lite 'short' side of the market for the time being." Receipts in Memphis during the official week aggregated 1167 bales, against 1500 bales the previous week, and 569 bales the corresponding week last season, and 1092 bales in 1879. The total receipts since Sep tember 1, 1880, were 40 1.000 bales, against 405,670 bales at the corresponding time last season, an increase of 5o,:t:i0 bales. At the same time in 1879 the receipt were SS5,4y3 baJea. Shipment during the official week aggre gated 5317 bales, against 2764 bales the previous week, and 34M2 bale the corre sponding; week last season, and 1561 in 1879. Total shipment since September 1st Were 452,364 bales, against 381,383 bales in 18.80, and 378,503 in 1879. The total stock on hand was 15,020 bales, against 18,673 bales at this time last year; 1879, 6383. Sales in Memphis during the official week aggregated 1975 bales, of which exporters took 275 bales, spinners 1700 bales and speculators none, against s total of 5325 bales last week. If curses would kill, the managers of the excursion down the river on the Rene Mac ready yesterday would be dead and buried by this time. The general sentiment of those who attended the "hurrah," as expressed last night, was that it was the worst fraud in the shaie of an entertainment ever perK t rated on this community, and Memphis has had some pretty rough deals in thai line. The few ladies who went down to the ground found a crowd of rought gamblers and pros titutes, aud .begged their escorts to return with them st once to the city. Not even a glass of ice-water was provided on the grormds for the ladies and children who were unfortunate enough to depend upon the -managers- ior it. A Doat-load ol painted Jexebels left the citv about dark for "Long Lake, to add to the attractions' of the "ex cursion." It 18 stated that on Sunday free icket were issued to enough of this class of women to insure a red-hot time," and it is reasonable to presume they had it last night. RIVERS ASD WEATHER.
