Wig Tells of Improve-1 ments to Result From Success Concrete cargo carriers foity-tvvo of which have been contracted for by the I-mergency Fleet Corporation, are a suc cess and Improvements now planned for the development of this type of vessel are expected to place it on nn equal footing with steel ships This is the opinion of R. .T Wig. chief engineer of the concrete division of the fleet corporation, expressed in an ad dress at the T.ngineers' Club. If the Im provements planned will enable the con crete used In ship construction to weigh below 100 pounds to the cubic foot, Mr. AYIg said he believed the concrete ves sel would be the boat of the future. The first concrete ship, the Faith, was launched at u I'aclllc coast shipyard several weeks ago Its trial trip vvai so successful that emergency fleet of ficials were extremely optimistic as to the future development of this tvpc of vessel "We are endeavoring," ald Mr, Wig, "to discover a lightweight concrete to reduce the deadweight tonnage of con crete ships. We ate convinced tliiit for many purposes the concrete ship Is better than steel. But we are not go sure of Its durability.
