A representative Influence was put Into the stock market durinc to day's tradliiK by the news from Washington that the Treasury represent ative had requested authority for the Issue of a new loan In the autumn of $8,000,000,000. These figures staKRercd some of thoe who had taken an active position on the bull side of the market, and from the time the announcement was made, stocks were pressed for sale, with the majority of the list sustaining declines ranging from 1 to 2 points from the high figures of the morning. Sellers of stocks on this recession failed to take Into consideration the fact that the experience of three loans already placed had demon strated the ability of the financial Institutions of the country to provide for t.overnment requirements no matter how large without any active dis turbance of banking accommodation, but the market situation had become sensitive to anything In the way of disturbing Incidents, and the profes sional element on the exchange was quick to use the news as a new bearish Incentive?, The general range of market moements was again Indicated by the course of United States Steel. That stock advanced In the early trading fiom 103H to 110H, but when the selling movement started after noon ,it declined to below 10D Many of the steel Industrials made good gains for a time during the morning, but these gains were turned Into losses In the last half of the day. Mexican Tetroleum was a strong feature, advancing 2 to 102'4, reacting with the remainder of the list before the close. Distillers Secur ities was especially affected by the report of the Senate Agricultural Committee lecommendlng the adoption of a prohibition amendment In connection with current legislation Trading In Liberty Bonds today was on such a large scale as to overshadow other transactions In the bond market. The second 4s ranged from 94 20 to 04.50, the 4s sold at 9fi 30 to 86 SO, and the 3U-5 ranged from 99.56 to 99 64.
