Whose party? -When, why and wherefc*4! so I am sending forth a call into j the highways, byways and the town j of Kodiak, a humble and pleading request for an enterprising and j journalistic-inclined young lady^ \ whlo will volunteer her goal servic es in tho humane cause of a better "personal" Mirror and tho general enlightening of tho citizens of Kodiak and this vicinity, in the pleasures, pastimes and parties of her neighbors. This time it is not "My kingdom for a horse"but a lady reporter"'. I’ll personally guaran tee your punishment will not exceed being burnt at the stake publicly’. In tho present absence of such a brave woman, well....here I go .... It has been rain ing a little this past week, sort of misty-like, bitt then havo’nt wo all rubber boots and I soo lots of skiffs tied up to docks around here... The most important happening in Kodiak seems to mo, to be the strike v/hich has boon called by the local fishermen, caused by tho inability of the two negotiating partic3 of tho fishermen and tho ednnory operators. Big companies vorsu.3 a group of snail-income ind ividuals arbitrating over a unit sum of money, small to one - largo to the other. Speaking rather candidly, it seems to mo that the people who will suffer tho moc t in . the long run, will not bo tho ones who aro involved in the strike but the merchants of Kodiak. The health wealth and happiness of this small community is at stake-oven families in and around here will suffer privation and the lack of the t C3ontials of life and tho children, ’■ who never aro responsible for tho actions of their elders, will feel the pinch more than anyone else. Why can’t it be possible for the gentlemen who are arbitrating this question, to appoint a group | who MUST make a decision for thorn. , Let an odd-numbered group of tried s and proven businessmen be elected by the negotiators, who will abide by tho decision of the third group. Way can’t wo get together on these j controversial questions and settle ; it immediately for the goad of the whole community and the outside firms represented hero, befa* c it is too late and everyone Is tho loser.
