The Marine Corps Ready To Fight Says C. 0-185th Anniversary Nov. 10 Asserting the United States Ma rines working closely with the Navy, don’t train by themselves, but train as a team, Major C. H. Sullivan, Executive Officer, Ma rine Barracks here, stated they are ready now for any job that can be assigned by the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Major Sullivan spoke to the Rotary Club at its noon meeting in the 49 Room on the occasion of the 185th anniversary of the Marine Corps, which was on Nov. 10th. The major traced the history of the Corps from its inception in 1775, through to the present time. From its first amphibious opera tion in 1776, the Marines also par ticipated in all the Naval battles and with Washington’s army a shore in many of the battles in the middle Atlantic campaigns of 1776 and 1777. After the revolution the Marines were employed in all parts of the world where the U.S. had an in terest. The major pointed out that the Marines participated in the War of 1812, and between 1899 and 1918 the Corps participated in eight major expeditions or campaigns. These included the Philippines Inserrection, the Boxer Uprising, Panama, Cuban Pacific ation, Vera Cruz, Haiti, Santa Do mingo and Nicaragua.
