Performances are scheduled for Friday and Satur day, May 4 and 5. Billed as “From Apples to Atoms” the variety show is being directed by Dr. Bob John son and is said to contain many amusing acts as well as talented entertainment. The group has scored heavily in previous performances. 5 KHS Students Win High Hcccr Five Kodiak High School stu dents have been approved for membership in “Who’s Who Among Student Leaders In Hign Schools Of America,” it was re vealed this week. Chosen on the basis of scholar ship, leadership in academic and extracurricular activities, service to school and communty, and promise for future usefulness were: Gary Irving Olson, Carolyn Ann Rockstad, Kathleen Marie Dawson, Mary Jane Huston, and Kathleen Mona Long. Established in 1954, the nation wide, non-profit organization is designed to give national honor and recognition to deserving high school students and to encourage them to develop their talents by continuing their education. Each student is awarded a cer tificate with the Gold Seal of rec ognition and the student’s name and biography appears in the of ficial publication for the current year. Letters of recommendation are written upon request of the stu dent to any college or university for scholarship or entrance refer ences. Letters are also written to prospective employers. I Griffin Memorial Births A son, Ronald Lee, weighing 8 lbs. 10 ozs., was born on April 15 to Patricia and Deward Halsey. A son, Gordon Lee, weighing 9 lbs., 9 ozs., was born on April 16 to Elizabeth and Charles Willough by. A daughter, Marciel De-Ann, weighing 8 lbs. 9Vz ozs., was born on April 16 to Helen and Albert Torsen of Ouzinkie. Two of the catcher boats off the Japanese fishing fleet which were seized Sunday and Monday are seen as they lie peacefully in Kodiak harbor. The boats were visited by a constant stream of curious on lookers prior to their departure Thursday morning. Fishermen appeared to be enjoying the unusual circumstances, smiling amiably as amateur photographers had them pose for pictures. We Never Close EASTER DINNER Roast Turkey * * * try our merchants lunch during the week Final Appeal For Bering Sea Patrol A last appeal for clothing for needy natives encountered by the annual Bering Sea Patrol is being made by both Coast Guard Wives Clubs this week. Used, clean but wearable cloth ing of all sizes is being gathered and packed by the clubs and will be distributed to needy natives by the Cutter Northwind on its Ber ing Sea Patrol. Clothing should be brought to the Kodiak Police station or to the Coast Guard Air Detachment Hangar #1, where a “Bering Sea Patrol” trailer is parked now.
