Crab Eggs Don’t Ha Open House Will Ex Probably nine out of every ten people who attend the King Crab Festival the first weekend in May this year will believe that when a King Crab egg is hatched a little prince or princess crab comes out! Not so! But those misinformed nine, and even the smarty tenth, can learn a lot about crab and fish and elk and other wildlife at the Open House to be held during the festival at the Kodiak Research Center (old Federal Jail building). The exhibits, with department personnel on hand to explain the variety of displays, will be open Ich Crabs; plain It from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. on May 5 and 6. There will be several kinds of exhibits, according to Alaska De partment of Fish and Game per sonnel, sponsors of the Open House. Among them will be mounted specimens explaining the love-life of salmon and depict ing crab from the cradle to the can. Panels of excellent photos will depict a variety of subjects from fishways and recovering eggs from gravel beds to an exciting series on tagging elk on Afognak by helicopter. Larvae come out of the eggs— not crabs! But if you want to know what the larvae do before becoming crabs you will have to go to the Open House and find out for yourself.
