Queen Contestant Carolyn Rockstad Is Combination of Beauty & Brains By Karl Armstrong A real combination of beauty and brains is the lovely Miss Car olyn Ann Rockstad, who is spon sored as a Queen Contestant in this year’s King Crab Festival by the Polar Bear Cafe. If you were to look into the an nual publication of “Who’s Who Among Student Leaders in Hign Schools of America,” you would find this 17-year old Kodiak High School Senior listed among these outstanding students who are se lected on a basis of “scholarship, service to school, leadership in academic and extracurricular ac tivities, service to school and com munity and promise for future usefulness.” The candid and gracious Miss Carolyn Ann has been pursuing an academic course in her plan of study in school and plans a ca reer as a physical education teach er or to enter the field of physical therapy professionally. That the physically active, ambitious-minded, and attractive Miss Carolyn Ann is deserving of the national honor and recogni tion awarded to her by the nation wide, non-profit Who’s Who organ ization, is attested to by not only her remarkably high scholastic standing (she had a 4.0 “Straight A” average last semester) but also by her numerous and many activities. Indicative of her interest in a P.E. type career is her passion for basketball. She has been presi dent of the High School Girls Ath letic Association of which she has been a member for four years and she ‘“loves intramural sports.” The active Miss Carolyn Ann is An invisible difference you can taste is the refreshing result of Olympia’s most famous ingredient: "Its the Water f Sfa/itr (Olympic) Vk beer jijj/ OLYMPIA BREWING CO., Olympia, Wash. «3!y *' also a member of the Pep Club and is secretary of the student council of the high school student government. And it should not be surprising that this lovely young lady is also president of tne local chapter of the National Hon or Society. A talented beauty besides, Miss Rockstad is a member of the drama club and was student di rector of the class play. And the 5’ 4” Miss Carolyn Ann is also one of Kodiak’s very own lovelies, having been born here in Kodiak and from a pioneer is land family. She lives with her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Van Buren. Miss Rockstad attends the Com munity Baptist Church where she is a Sunday School teacher and Is Worthy Associate Advisor in the Order of the Rainbow Girls. With all these various activities Miss Rockstad still has spare time in which she serves as a Gray Lady at the hosptal and as a librarian in the public library! And even with all these interests, Miss Caro lynn Ann finds time to ice skate during the winter and go swim ming “lots", in the summer. Pretty Miss Carolyn Ann has light brown hair and hazel eyes— however, as she pointed out, “My hair turns to blond and my eyes change to green in the summer sun.” Miss Roekstad will graduate next month and in September plans to attend Western Washing ton State College. Somewhere within them, the parents finally realized that with such a strong conviction that Jer ry possessed, and though so young, his talk was serious and rational and perhaps they should discuss this with the Pastor of Jerry’s church.
