Kodiak Couple John Rohwers Visit Germany Mr. and Mrs. John Rohwer re turned to Kodiak last week after spending six weeks vacationing in Europe. They spent most of their time traveling in West Germany and visiting relatives of John. How ever they were also able to find time to tour Denmark, and Switzer land. Originally from Germany, John was making his first trip back in many years and they were able to visit famous castle, Gottorf, where he had taken officer’s training in 1920. Mrs. Rohwer said that while they did not go into Eastern Germany they were able at one point to ob serve portions of the Eastern Zone under Communist domination and she reported it to be as desolate and poverty striken as claimed by others and she contrasted the East Zone with the ’’bustling prosperous West Germany where the stores are extremely modern and full of glit tering new merchandise and pros perous customers.” “A man is judged by the com pany he keeps—a women by the company she has left.” Legal Notice RECEIPT OF PROPOSALS: Sealed Proposals on forms pre pared by the Engineer will be re ceived by the City Clerk, City of Kodiak at Kodiak City Hall, Kodiak, Alaska until 4:00 p.m. (local time) on December 11, 1963 for the con struction of the 1963 Paving pro ject, consisting of asphalt paving of 1600 sq. yds. of dock building floor for the City of Kodiak at Kodiak, Alaska. Proposals will be publicly open ed and read at 4:00 p.m. (local time) on December 11, 1963 at the Kodiak City Hall, Kodiak, Alaska. Obtaining contract Documents: Drawings, Specifications and other Contract Documents may be obtain ed upon application at the office of the City Clerk after 12:00 noon on November 18, 1963 upon the pay ments of $10.00 per set. The pay ment shall be in check form and shall be drawn payable to the City of Kodiak, Alaska. The deposit for each set will be refunded upon re turn of the Contract Documents in good condition not later than 6even (7) days following the opening of Proposals. Proposal Guaranty: Each Pro posal shall be accompanied by an acceptable form of Proposal Guar anty in an amount equal to at least five (5) per cent of the amount of he Poposal payable to the City of Kodiak as a guaranty that if the Proposal is accepted, the Bidder will execute the Contract and file acceptable Performance and Labor and Material Payment Bonds within ten (10) days after the award of the Contract.
