Special Panel Wil Try Ceorge Webster TOLEDO, Ohio—A special panel of 60 jurors was drawn last Sat urday by William F. Renz. clerk of courts, to try George Webster on a first degree murder charge on July 6. before John M. Cabe, who' will be on the bench. Webster is accused of fatally' shooting Thomas Harris. 40, of Di vision street, April 6 at Indiana and Division streets. According to Commander Stanley, he anticipates that the post night "excursion" will draw nearly 1500 persons. From here, Mr. Smith will go to Detroit, where he ✓Fight To Maintain Race Fire Unit TOLEDO. Ohio—According to the Supreme Court ruling, the Negro Fire union. No. 8. Division and In diana, may be discontinued before long. Miss Julia Ward, who is the complaining person, filed for a re hearing of the case last week. Assistant Law Director James Slater Gibson, disclosed that there is only one possible way in which the Negro fire._unit can be main lined. He did not state what that particular ••measure” was but he did state that he would use every ef fort in order for this fire unit to be maintained. Albert Stewart, who stood very high in the civil service exam inations, is the only fireman who is eligible to survive in case the unit does discontinue. June 2At the i final tabulation of votes to decide ' the winner of the Sepia City mayor alty contest held in the Toledo of fice, 460 Indiana. Monday night m which representatives of two local papers were included among the judges. Robert Findley was de clared the second mayor of Sepia City by a margin of 1.127 votes over his nearest competitor, Edward Jackson. He was declared vice-mayor by the judges who were: Miss Frances Alexander, business manager of the Toledo Voice. Phil Gibbs, special writer for the Toledo Daily Blade, Robert "Chick” Lewis, editor of the Toledo Chronicle, Miss Beulah Col lins, society editor of the Toledo Chronicle. James Hill, carrgjaigr manager for Mr- Findley, Archie Britter, campaign manager for Mr. Jackson. The contest was sponsored by Robert "Chick” Lewis, who in stigaTed the initial "Sepia City" con test that was sponsored last year by T' letdcr Press. Mr, Findley, who succeeds J. B. Simmons Jr., as mayor, will issue a statement acknowledging the ho-ior in next week's issue of the Chronicle. He was not present at the final tabulation which was held just prior to making final copy for Mr. Lewis, the sponsor, states that inauguration ceremonies will be held Saturday, June 17. following a huge parade in which floats repre senting Toledo business concerns will participate as well as private cars. Date for the Sepia City Ball will be announced in a later issue of the Chronicle. Royal Hearts In Bridge Party The Royal Hearts Bridge club gave a party at the Bellmen's and Waiters' club Friday. It looks like three would be too many. r , Four Jailed On Robbery Suspicion TOLEDO, Ohio—Last Saturday night, four boys, whose.ages ranged between 14 and 16, were arrested in front of Pocock's Drug Store, Ne braska and Division streets, on the [charge of suspicion. They were j taken into custody by the Toledo Humane society. j After questioning the four youths iit was learned that these boys had negotiated am} committed other crimes but had gotten away "with the g<*>ds.” tt- was also learned that one of these youths had. single handed, comipitteed 13 robberies.
