Temple Baptist Church. 14th St. at Marquette St., Miehr—-—- Dear Dr. Norris: In the past few years I have been • ccustomed to listening to your vonderful discourses in which you •o ably portray to your radio audi ence and general membership of your immediate church. I readily recognize the fact that your extensive travels have brought you in contact with all races, creeds and colors. I feel that a man of your intelligence and position in the Christian world, imbued with the knowledge of the principles of Jesus Christ and His teachings •hould not refer to the Negro race as you did in your radio address. November 5, 1939. on station WXYZ at 11:30 am., by using the word ••Nigger." In trying to portray the incident of the Haunted House, the term "Nigger” was used thrice. We as American citizens regret the incident, and further be ad vised that we will protest the usage of the world "Nigger" in your fu ture addresses. We take this means cf registering our resentment to you in pure interest of the teaching of the Maker of Man. and in the fur tnerance of true Americanism. Scallen on Monday. * ' Testimony disclosed that the young complainant, whose name Is withheld due to the nature of the (case was pregnant as a result of acts she alleges implicated the defend ant. However, under cross ex amination by Samuel Weller, de fense counsel, the young girl admit* ted having relations with a man known to her as Rock on several I occasions during the month of June, i Sne charges that Seay had had re -1 lations with her following their meetings at a house across the street from her home sometime near July 21. June 12 and 15 were also men tioned as dates of alleged acts with Glenn C. Hague handled the pros ecution for the state while Samuel L. Weller was the defense attorney. The jury returned with a verdict of not guilty to acquit the defendant of the statutory rape charge.
