Miss Nellie Watts, popular school teacher and club woman, was her hostess. Miss Anderson's appearances here for the past few years, and it is she who has been directly responsible for the now seething interest of De troiters in the glorious, glamorous career of this heavenly voiced It was indeed a revelation, stand ing face to face with this amazing artist. There was the inclination to linger, to ask questions, but al though it was very great, we had to move on to make room for the hundreds of others. In the intimate setting of the Raifords’ home, all of her charm and aristocratic bear ing showed to best advantage. Sherrill Names Negro City, ‘Crispus’ The committee on incorporating the community north of Eight Mile road into a city, met at Grant school last week to name the proposed city. Several names were submitted for the consideration of the committee the most favored of which were the names of Providence, Michigan, Warren, Michigan, Brown, Michigan and Crispus, Michigan. After much discussion as to rea sons why each name should or should not be accepted, the commit tee decided to settle on the name Crispus, submitted by William L. Sherrill, because of its historical ap peal to all Negroes.
