In recital at the Masonic auditor
ium last Friday night, sponsored
by Mlsa Nellie Watta. Miss Har
rison is a pianist of great tech
nique and was acclaimed by all
the critics as a master of the tech
nique of fingering. In the first
picture our photographer caught
Miss Harrison in an intimate pose
in her stressing room directly after
her performance. In the second
and third we see sections of the
gay crowd of sorors who greeted
her at a breakfast in her honor
held last Saturday morning at the

thank her very much...for ’twas a rare and delightful

There was a joint presentation of three one-act plays...
by the Dramatic Society.. .and groups of musical numbers
by the Glee club...and the string ensemble....
The three plays.. .were.. .The Gooseberry Mandarin...
The Dear, Dear Children.. .and. . .You Buy, I 8uy....A1l
three were played with all-female casts...the male char
acterizations, superbly done, with almost indetectable make
up in many cases
All three would make.. .capital material for the Jabber
wock.. .and here’s hoping some of the participants of this
year will take heed and give us better fare than of recent
years
We loved Marygrove.. .every inch of it...’tis truly an
Ideal setting in which learn one’s three R’s,...Along with
us and Our Clem.. .were.. .Manwella Williams.. .Margue
rite Williams and her constant escort these days.. .Harold
Smith....

broken limb.. . EDNA TONDEE, who has an attack of “flu”
.. .MABLE LONG, who has had a nervous breakdown, she
seeks recuperation in a trip to the Southland.. .Tennessee,

Chicago Teachers college . . . which will 'enable her to
teach in that city . . . and she expects an appointment
very soon. , . . She will be here for a short stay some

Alpha Kappa Alpha sorors turned
out "40” strong, to the breakfast
for their Soror Hazel Harrison, on
last Saturday morning, in beauti
ful cafeteria of the Lucy Thurman
Branch Y.W.C.A. Twas a truly
gala, peopled with enthusiastic ad
mirers of Miss Harrison, who Justly
deserved the plaudits heaped upon
her, for her masterful performance
the night before at Masonic au
ditorium. It was the consensus of

"Tops" among the surprises of the
current year was the wedding of
Royal Watson and Mrs. Roseila Bur
nette who were secretly married In
Ohio, January 8. and announced the
event to their friends at a gala re
ception in their home, January 14.
This event was followed by a sec
ond entertainment given in their
honor by the “Sophisticated Six
teens” at Twelve Horsemen’s club
in the midst of a very colorful set
ting of flowers in profusion.
Congratulations were extended to
the newlyweds by the many guests

Sunday school at the Church of
God was largely attended with Sam
uel Randel. superintendent, presid
ing. The morning service featured
the preaching of Elder T. D. McGhee
speaking from the subject, ‘‘Justi
fication.” Two young ladies were
added to the membership.
Six in the evening was B.Y.P.U.
hour, Effie Randels. president This
hour presented a Variety program,
featuring the pastor and his wife
singing a duet
Night services, the highlight was
testifying, with the pastor again
preaching. His text was found St
Mark 12:34.

different as clubs go in Detroit was
organized last week by Daniel Rose
of Holbrook avenue. Included in

the recital, received a rousing round
of applause from her aorors. Soror
Margaret Bennett as chairman of
the delightful breakfast had done
an excellent job in the planning, as
did Soror Evelyn Solomon, who put
forth all of her charming personal
ity into the leading of pep songs,
and the giving of a resume of the
forth-coming production of “Susan
and God," of which she is director.
Soror Bennett introduced Beulah
Whitby, first anti-basileus, andj
boror Irene Graves, Great Lakes
regional director, to the distinguish
ed guest artist; she also presented
the basileus of the local chapters,
who are Soror Angel Lambert, Al
pha Rho Omega; Lollie Walker,
Xi; and Mary Agnes Miller, Beta
Mu. Soror Ruby Bradley covered
the highlights in the coming pro
duction of "Susan and God," which
will be presented at the Art Insti
tute on February 2, and is compli
mentary to the general public.
Miss Harrison appeared in a love
ly and becoming gown of green and
wore corsage of yellow roses, which
was the gift of the Sorors. Some
