Initiate Three Into Sorority Your Beauty Corner j The jittery pledgees of Lo-Me-Pa Pledge club, Zeta chapter of lota Phi Lambda sorority, assembled at the home of Soror Esther Sanders, on Saturday night awaiting their very apparent doom amidst all the mystery surrounding initiation into a Greek letter society. The initiation ceremony was im pressively conducted by Maxine Broyles, dean of pledgees and Phyllis Griffin, president of the chapter. Those inducted Into the sorority chapter were Mrs, Cadbnce Hines. Bennie Thompson and John ella Johnson, all of whom are active | and efficient in the secretarial field, which made them eligible for membership in lota Phi Lambda. Social Session Follows A social session followed the in duction at which time all the sorors gathered about the beautifully ap pointed table, decorated in the color scheme, green and white, the lota Phi Lambda colors. Wayne county commissioner of the poor, last Fri day night. The affair which in cluded music, dancing and refresh ments was held at Paradise Ball room. under the chairmanship of C. H. Patrick and Mrs. Vaughn. Outstanding personages were present at the affair including Mrs. Clara Van Auken. Democratic com mittee woman. who presented the guest of honor with a cut glass compote that had belonged to Presi dent Abraham Lincoln and had been used by his fami’y during his stay in the White House. This com pote has been in the Van Auken family for five generations. Mrs. Van Auken averred that due to the significance of Mrs. Belford’s pres ent work among Negroes, this gift was very appropriate for the oc casion. At the Speakers' Table Among the prominent figures at the speakers’ table were, the present jury commissioner, Mrs. Mary Jef fries. who spoke of Mrs. Belford's loyalty: Mrs. Margaret Hawkins paid tribute to the great leadership; Senator Charles Diggs. He complimented the hon oree for her outstanding work and untiring efforts. Mrs. Stillwagoh, president of the Women’s Demo cratic Federated clubs, told of Mrs. Standing, Bobby Brooks, Beatrice Stinson. Jenny Strickland, Bea trice Williams, Ruth Davis, Eve lyn Caver.
