SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 1943 * Les Douze Amies Feted Saturday With Smart Party Campbell Home Scene Of Gala Affair For Them Laura Kate Pickes Was Hostess For Friends By GLADYS MILLS The Campbell maw, on Trow bridge, wax the scene of much festivity on last Saturday afternoon. Win Praise For Work MINNEAPOLIS. Minn. The Women's Auxiliary of the Urban League here in Minneapolis, under the leadership of Mrs. Wallace B. Chambers, is doing a most praiseworthy job in the civic field here. Adding to its regular activities, the auxiliary several months ago took cognizance of the tact that while Minneapolis itself has only a small Negro population, the location of two tremendous ord- i.rnce plants here is attracting numbers of Negro workers These new people, unfamiliar tn s sect.on of the country, for the most part, needed gu.dance and co operation tne aux.,.ary felt. A committee was organized ’herefore to grapple w.th tn.s prob lem. It is known as the NAIC Newcomers A d and Integration Committee'' Mrs. R B Lynch is the general chairman'. The group pledged to a d newcomers ;n ad just.ng themselves quickly to life .n tne community and to integrate them a# speeo ly and agreeably prac’.cable into the lives and ac t.v.t.cs of the local sct-ips. ‘‘Naturally we want Minneapolis to secure the best workers pos s.ble.'' sa d Mr* Chambers in dis c i.--' ng the work of the group last week. "We const of a beautifu c y here, one which is kept quite clean We are proud of our home although they are small. L.ving in most instances next door to people of the other group, we seek to keep our homes painted, our lawns on a par w ‘h the best and the general itandarS of liv'Tng on a level with that of our r.e.ghbors. So you see we want to encourage m.grants ami job seekers who believe ,n standards of the sort to come to \! nneapolis ra'.ner than those who do not care or who are substand ard in the r outlook and living.
