SATURDAY, AUGUST 28, 1943 J__T: -1 - T TTiTiTi niii -~ ■ GADDINGS MOSTLY ABOUT PEOPLE Went to the HORSE SHOW....but didn’t get even a glimpse of a horse... .’Twas so very crowded.. .had to get ours by remote control You would have thought there was no such thing as rationing... .We thought perhaps the gasoline shortage.. .wodld keep lots of folk from getting out that far But they must have walked... because if anything there were more than last year. ’Twas so that if you got in one place you had to stay there r .. .and we were.. .caught at the bar just when.. .MR. ROX BOROUGH told BILLY BURKE.. .that there were only five more cases of ale... .When we finally extricated our feeble bodies... .people were cheering lustily... .the MUSICAL CHAIRS number.. which was the last event, meaning that it was all over.... But we did see lots of people.. .which was really what we went for. The place was beautifully spotted with uniformed f01k... many of those.. .pretty lieutenants from Selfridge... and their ladies both local.. .and imported. CAPTAIN JAMES RAMSEY...was positively glamorous ...in his white summer dress uniform... .Saw LIEUTEN ANT PUGHSLEY...with a striking hlonde Handsome LT. BILL WALKER.. .who turns out to be a Virginian. .. and there for a bit of all right with us LIEUTENANT KNOX.. .LT. AND MRS. BILL WOMACK...and she is a doll....with the cutest southern accent and just enough naivete. GLADYS AND RUTII GILES. . had a couple of “Louies” In tow...and were introducing them around. THE PENICKS.. .and their daughter. Mary. . .luckily had found a place to dine in comfort on the veranda... .We did have a moment to ask Mary about her schooling at. . .Ann Arbor... .She has been there all summer, you know. . .and loves it....DR. AND MRS. GILBERT EDWARDS...in the smartest in sports attire.. were showing his mother about the place She is so petite. . .really cute. ANN SIMPSON seemed to be.. .chummy with. . .SONNY WILSON... .She looked fetching in a suit and dutch bonnet .. JACQUE MALLORY. . was rather the dashing grass widow...in a purple suit...and black accents... .VELMA BRANAM... .with her sister. MRS. ROSE JOHNSON of Chicago... and cute MARGIE McCLANE of Boston, were sort of stagging it for the day...the men folk in Idlewild. „ . .JEANNE WAUNDLESS has gone Latin in a big way .. since her engagement to the Cuban lad.. . She looked like a senorita ROSE CAMPBELL. . .with her sister.. .MRS LAURA KATE PICKENS Caught just a glimpse of • CUTIE" ROXBOROUGH. . .and LUCY BELLE MORRIS, both were in beige. IRIS RF.LL ...was darling in. a tv^ite suite . and large b.ack sail or she was with CALVIN POR TER ATTY LLOYD LOOMIS ...and h.s kiddies ..LOUISE. BARBARA and JOHNNIE. ..walking hand in hand down the long expanse lead ing up to the club house. ALBERTA SIMMS... .looking as rare aa a day in June ..clinging to BASSETT JONES (He wears two tripe* if we remember correctly) ..he i* home for fifteen days... MR. LUCAS.. assures us that it is his Wife. Rhea's, sister and not his who is married to BILL ROUTT. BEULAH CUZ7.ENS ...in a white suit...and white flowers in her hair.. looking like a. . .Tahitian... etc, etc... There were just thou sands of folk .. and ...where on earth did AGNES JOHNS manage to find that chair ...We envied her. .. Our poor feet were just dead l.terally by the time ue ...found ©urselves on the way back to De troit and f00d... There wasn’t a •peck to be had there . everything sold out...indeed we heard a man ©ffer to buy a glass of water. * * * IN SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT VEIN MRS. CHARLES C.
