PAGE TEN Applauded Nelle Plante Recital Here November 22 Church Scene Of Artist's Triumph, Many Attended Wide Selection Of Songs Were Rendered By GLADYS MIl-US A recital of such consummate artistry ** Nelle Plante, great dramatic soprano delivered the evening of Nov. 22. at F.bcnrzer AME church, left a tremendously •pprec.ative audience positively weak with sheer wonder and awe Mr*. Plante's first group consisted of compositions of Secehi. Handel •nd Mozart Her warm and vibrant voice showed flexibility in Mozart's "Aleluia.** *"Dr Puis I-e Jour" by Charpentier and “Habanera" from Bizet's opera "Carmen." She dis played marvelous breath control in these selections The latter number Is but of course still fresh in the rrinds of music lovers who saw the opera “Carmen" in which the diva did her finest acting in the title role. “Rfforna Vincitor" from "Aida** In her third group showed great dramatic color and ei.so in the up per and lower registers These selec tions merited the hearty applause they received The English group was well chosen and showed advantageously ; her ability to master numbers for lyricism and perfect diction The artist showed her best in the final group of Negro spirituals, w.th all the religious fervor and Intensity that so characterizes them: j her final number. “Ride On JPrus." rerched an emotional height, and the audience demanded to have more. Those who attended declared i Mrs. Plante to be in excellent voice. : Alberta Hams at the piano, gave very fine support to the artist, in he: sympathetic and unassuming manner.
