Scott Beckem’s In Yule Housewarming Mr. and Mrs. Scott Beckem, 9661 Russell street, entertained in their new home with a housewarming and dinner last Sunday. The home was a scene of holiday loveliness, with flowers, fruit and candles dec orating the Venetian-lace covarad table. Dinner was served buffet style and consisted of cold cuts, turkey, vegetables, and cakes arranged in a very palatable manner. Detroiters turned out en masse to dance their cares away to the lilting tunes of a twelve-piece orchestra. Mrs. Bell greeted her guests in a clastic black lace dinner gown, dis tinguished by a huge red rose at the waist. Doris and Iris, the Bell’s debutante daughters, were gowned in white and the doctor was res plendent in a tuxedo. Reluctantly the guests departed to the tune of “Home Sweet Home,” because they will remember the Bell dance as one of the most brilliant affairs in many a moon. New Year’s eve. The place fairly bulged wii.h folk, the women sve.lt and smart in the long and short of evening attire, the men in dinner jackets for the rr.ost part, but all of them well groomed and festive. The feasting was sumptuous, turkey and such flowed from a ver itable cornucopia; ditto for the portables. As usual the basement bar was the popular spot, wi{h Dr. Lucy Thurman Branch In Annual Meeting Jan. 20 Rev. Robert L. Bradby’s talk on “What Today Means to Tomorrow” will highlight the 24th annual meet ing program of the Lucy Thurman Branch YWCA on Thursday, Jan uary 20. Rev. Bradby is pastor of the Second Baptist church and well known for hia ability aa a speaker. All members and friends of the as sociation are Invited to attend the annual meeting as well as the din ner which preceeds it at 6:30 o’clock. Reservations are requested by Tues day. Other interesting features of the evening include the annual report of the chairman of the Board, Mrs. Charles F. Stephens, and an inter pretation of the history and growth of the YWCA to be presented by Misa S, Lavinia Moore’s modern dance group. There will also be an election of a board of directors for 1944. Polls will be open during the day preceding the meeting so that all members may have a chance to cast their ballots. Mrs. F. E. Daw-son is chairman of the annual meeting committee as sisted by Mrs. A. E. Thomas, Mrs. Haley Bell. Miss Ruth W. Anderson, and Mrs. Stephens. Those partici pating in the program include Mrs. Madeline H. Fowler, general secre tary. and the Misses Loraine Jobes, Lillian Williams, Frances Leonard. Naomi Richards.
