YERGAN URGES
R A C E - JEWISH
UNITY PLAN
NEW YORK. N. Y. - Dr. Mrx
Yergan, president of the Nationml
Negro Congress, called upon 75
c< mmunity leaders here this week
to demand Department of Justice
investigation of the connection be
tween fascist organizations which
foment race hatred and the out
break* against Jews and Negroes
in New York and elsewhere
throughout the country.
The emergency meeting called
by the National Federation for Con
stitutional Liberties, at the Hotel
Pennsylvania, to combat recent
anti-Semitic violence in Greater
New York and similar drives
against racial minorities in other
major cities unanimously adopted
a rerolution presented by Dr. Yer
gan urging action by Mayor La-
Guardia, President Roosevelt and
the Department of Justice to term
inate the activities and publications
of fascist organizations in New
York and throughout the country.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Yer
gan emphasized the necessity for
unity of all minority groups in
combatting race hatred and other
un-American manifestations. Said
Dr. Yergan: “Jews, Negroes, and
other minorities must join hands
with organized labor—for together
we form the great majority of dem
ocratic forces in this country. We
must fight with all our power those
forces within our ranks which seek
to divide us and put Negro against
white Jew against Gentile
Catholic against Protestant”
