SATURDAY, JANUARY 22, 1944 January Reception Reveals December Wedding Of Couple Rowe-Moultrie Nuptials Join Fine Families “And they lived happily ever •fter” is the expected culmination of the swanky affair given by Mr. Berry G. Rowe as he presented his new son and daughter to Detroit • t the reception given for them Jan. 9. The charming couple are Sgt. and Mrs. George Moultrie. Sgt. Moul trie hails from Chicago and is the •on of Dr. J. W. Moultrie, a retired Methodist minister. He is at pres ent stationed at Selfridge Field where he is director of personnel and a special* service representative of the 44th Aviation Squadron. Mrs. Moultrie is the former Rora Rowe, who for years has been active in church and civic affairs throughout the city. The couple was married at the bride's home. 6390 Thirtieth street by the Rev. Alvin Burton. Dec. 26 1943. Only the family and close friends were present. Mrs. John W. Moultrie Sr., mother of the groom, came over from Chicago for the wedding. The bride wore a sleek silk white Jersey traditional wedding gown trimmed in pearl braid. The veil was shoulder length. For the re ception two weeks later she was resplendent in an evening gown of •qua silk Jersey and white net with three quarter sleeves. Norman B. Traylor. Assisting as hostesses were Miss Eunice Morris. Mrs Ruth Madison and Mrs. M yola Traylor, also Miss Lunora Fuqua, the mece of the bride. Miss Wilson is a voice student Of the world famed Celeste Cole, and showed great promise as a singer The young singer was ac companied by Charles Coleman and Robert Frederick, pianists. Ex-White Ushers Attend Mrs. Hoover Funeral NEW YORK—Among the mourn ers at the funeral of Mrs. Herbert Hoover Monday morning at St Bartholomew s P. E. church, were Alex Sampson and Leon Thompson of Washington. Both men had been u«hers at the White House during the Hoover administration They were among the first callers the former President received in hi< suite in the Waldorf Astoria early Monday where he had been in seclusion since his w ife’s death. The two called on Mr. Hoover immediately after arriving to offer their condolences and services. They went from there to St Bartholo mew’s where they joined others who had been connected with the Hoovers in Washington. She was riding on a local streetcar, when she noticed a man staring at her and making gestures with his hands. She promptly gave the man a cold sure, but looked at him again out of the comer of her eyes and he was still making the same motions. This infuriated the lady in question and menUlly she called him an old freshie. By chance the man got off at the same stop as the lady and said. “Lady, I was trying to tell you that your left stocking is hanging way down.” Elise Blackman Wed In Double Ring Ceremony Miss Elise Blackman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Blackman of Rosedale Court, was married to Cpl. Adrick Phillinganes on Satur day. January 16, in a double ring home ceremony. The rites were read by Rev. H. M. Carroll, pastor of Scott Methodist church, in the home of the bride's parents. The bride w’as dressed in an aqua tailored frock and wore a fuchia hat and gloves. Black patent bag and shoes completed her costume. Her bridal corsage was of white car nations. Her lone attendant was Miss L*lia Halhday. The groom was attended by John Erwin. The bride’s mother chose navy blue for her daughter's wedding and wore a corsage of roses. The bride is an outstanding mezzo soprano in the Robert Nolan Ghoir. She is a member of the Scott Meth odist church and is employed as a typist in the Free Press building.
