In urging support of the proposed bill, which would make it unlawful for both management and unions to discriminate against any worker on the basis of color, creed, race, national origin or ancestry, Reginald A. Johnson, field secretary of the National Urban League, declared that the sanctions provided in the proposed bill are inadequate. “Today tens of thousands of Ne gro workers are employed in plants where they are confined to tem porary work permits and auxiliary union status. Such types of labor 1 un on practices should not have the protection of government, and or ganizations pursuing such member ship policies should be denied -the I services of the National Labor Re lations Board and the National Mediation Board” In support of his plea. Mr. John son read into the record a list of 23 unions. AFL and independent, ! which bar Negro and other minori ties from full membership. Insurance Rate Is Doubled For Negro Workers PROVIDENCE. R. I.
